Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD Texture Mod

So it appears the giant custom textures will produce stutters no matter what, even as DDS and even with custom texture prefetching.
After rescaling them (with Bighead's tool) to integers of 4x (I don't know what all that means but anyway ^_^) everything still looks great and I get no stutters at all, even without custom texture prefetching. Maybe going down a bit with the scaling might want to be considered for the main pack here.

As an optional pack, sure, but I prefer maximum quality for preservation and future proofing . We can downscale the pack ourselves, or the pack creator can hand it over, but I prefer having the original source. By the way, does it work better for you with the Ishiiruka builds? I only tried the texture pack with them, and I don't have any problems.

It would be great for packs like this if we can have a scaled down version alongside the original, unless this produces no stutters. This helps a lot of people out anyway. Nice work btw. I want to wait until it is done before I try it out and see performance. Stutters for me will not be acceptable though as the graphics are already very good with 3xIR and 4xMSAA. 4K is honestly not needed at all for most people and a scaled version is preferable in this instance if there are even a few stutters because of it. Good luck and great work!
There should really be 50% DDS packs for all of these projects IMO, just for the sake of performance. I know we can do it ourselves but that doesn't help the people that can't do it. 05-24-2015, 07:51 PM

What, you don't even have little stutters with Ishiiruka? Not even, e.g., on the title screen just before "To start press A + B" pops up? I thought this wasn't even dependend on hardware but there's just no way to get these giant textures without stuttering.

I have a very clean PC and only play in Classic mode on Win7 for gaming with no other major, extraneous active processes. Got a new HDD coming too. I will install this and see if there are stutters very soon on my i5 2500K @ 4.5 and 970 @ 1485 rig.
Pretty safe to say that if I am getting stutters the majority of people using this will get stutters. I will play on the most updated Ish build and the most updated build of Master. Honestly, just make a 50% pack or whatever the creator thinks is a good compromise regardless. Something in the 45-65% range will do it. Just like every other major texture pack on PC, it is nice to have options. AND IF YOU DON'T FIND THE TIME THAT IS OKAY TOO. NO BIG DEAL. GREAT PACK. 05-24-2015, 11:01 PM

It stutters there (the other day I assumed it was my GPU because I was playing in 3D at 3xIR and 2xMSAA). But after being able to control Mario, I haven't seen any major stuttering in the few minutes I tried (only one when you have to select the star before starting a levell). I wonder if a combination of Ishiiruka + prefretch textures would reduce stutters even more.

Also, every time, a speech bubble pops up I get a stutter. It's tiny, but annoys me a lot. In SMG, you get it a lot running around the observatory because there's a lot of NPCs talking to you when you run past them.
Nope, I also thought prefetching would eliminate that stuttering but I tried and it didn't change anything. It has something to do with the way the textures are streamed between RAM and VRAM. So there just really seems to be no way to make such big textures not produce stuttering.

Hey guys, this is a really great texture pack, but I'm getting a bit of stuttering on the title screen and during gameplay. I'm using the latest Ishiiruka build. Any tips on how to reduce stuttering?

That's because of some very big textures (and there's no settings or anything that can make this better). I can make a scaled down version (you won't see much of a difference) of this pack as I did for the SMG1 pack and upload it. No time for that today, though.
