Fair enough. I would like to see those big grainy ones at some time, but you don't have to do it right away, whenever it's convenient for you is convenient for me Smile I just think they really do add a great deal of depth when not using Ishiiruka.

Thank you for your contributions!

Hi guys. Could I have some help?

So if I use the PNG pack everything looks amazingly sharp, but very stuttery. With DDS pack it runs perfectly but it seems like only the models textures are being loaded in, none of the Menus / UIs / Text seem to be upscaled...

Any idea why this could be? I am using the DDS pack uploaded by Bighead.

Many thanks

Are you using a recent development build of Dolphin? Older versions like 5.0 aren't compatible with the DDS BC7 format.

Yes that is probably it, thank you, I'm on Dolphin 5.0. I download the DDS repack someone linked to on Page 6 (the one on page 1 is down), which works perfectly. I'm guessing that's an older version? I'll try again with the newer Dolphin. Thanks!

There are several kinds of DDS textures. The ones from that page use DXT1/DXT5 compression, which are D3D9 formats and are lower quality. The packs I linked use BC7 compression, which is a D3D11 format and is higher quality. Support for BC7 was not added until after Dolphin 5.0.

I don't wanna replace anything he's done if he doesn't agree, i just wanna clean some stuff, change some decisions i made back then, decisions i no longer stand by, such as using the grain for detail (something CDAMJC agreed for the same reason, it added depth, and some of the textures he created from scratch have the same grainy post processing) it's just that now there 2 ways of adding depth to the world, the 3Dish render and the materials - i would much rather prefer materials but then this would be an Ishiiruka only project and i'm not sure that most people even know about Ishiiruka).

Another decision i took back then was preserving the hatch pattern on some textures, something i'm gonna remove completely (i'd rather add the hash as a bump, through materials).

It's imperative to remove the "noise" (i'm not referring to the mathematical definition of noise, the one that creates grain, but to various patterns used to thicken/detail the texture) on the textures when using materials, otherwise it will lead to some messy textures.

1. Grain and "noise" removal on the wood textures

A little confused. If I'm using the version of the pack Bighead posted most recently (and don't like grain), should I be adding your updates?

Is this project still actively worked on? The download links haven't been updated in years! I would love to help work on this, if you want.

In case you want the 2048/4096 version of my grainy files (i don't have CDAMJC's ones), i can release them at any time (well, i have to search for them on my HDD and rename them since they are named for the old format and i have other priorities atm).

The textures i want to create will be an alternate version, one where the main goal is to remove the unnecessary details/grain and add that irregular clay-ish look. My style has evolved since my SM64 retexture and back in 2012, when i made the first "breakthrough", i sorta tried to unify the SM64, SMSS and SMG1 visuals. Now that my style has evolved during the SMSS retexture, i want to bring it to SMG.

Actually, if you played or seen screenshots of Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle, my SMSS style sorta resembles that game's style, mine being a bit more irregular (organic). In an ideal world, the SMSS/SMG models should look like my textures but that's not something i can do... but Nintendo can do it in SMSS HD. For me, however, Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the closest thing to how i imagine a SMSS remake and I was hoping Mario Odyssey would look like that but i guess they had a different vision. Seeing how i'm from Europe and Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle was made by Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Milan studios i guess that, as kids, we play with clay more than the Japanese Huh

I think it is hard to say which fits this Galaxy games better. I do not mind the grain textures on the grass and wood, and in fact think they actually do add a little to the game. Not quite sure about the example posted above. I don't think the first version looks bad at all. And the subsequent versions get more clay type style, which I am not sure fits the style of the Galaxy games. The Galaxy games are pretty clean for the most part, and not really clay at all. I would definitely be interested in seeing what this pack looks like for sure.

Whatever you do, make sure it is not Ishii only. I have not used that project in ages and do not plan on ever going back. Normal Dolphin is now far superior and runs all of my games better without hitches.

BC7 runs the same in OpenGL right?
