Super Mario Galaxy 1 HD Texture Mod

Hello I am pleased to announce that the original creator of this texture mod Razius has been gracious enough to allow me to continue this mod where he left off.  The HUD elements, most particles effects, and many environmental textures were created by Razius.  He was kind enough to share his files with me and few technique tips so I could continue the mod with the same level of quality in mind.  Since then I have spent the last 3 months working on the mod.  I look forward to try an continue doing Razius' work justice through the completion of this mod.  It has been a joy to work on.

3.Setup and Usage (Old format/versions)

**Note**
The mod has been completely converted to the new texture naming format.  In addition to that, I have converted the mod to DDS with DXT compression maintaining high resolutions (in some cases higher to maintain quality).  This new dds format combined with any version of Ishiiruka Dolphin that supports the new texture format will allow you to experience the mod as close as possible to, if not completely, stutter free! (depending on specs I would imagine).  the mod will work on any Dolphin version that supports the new texture format however not Ishiiruka Dolphins will have stutter that is typical with heavy HD texture mods and Dolphins.

To use the mod you must use a version of Dolphin that supports the new texture format.  Again, I personally recommend using Ishiiruka Dolphin to play without stutter.  When first running the game you may get small stutter as the shader cache is built, however once the shader cache is built the stutter should be gone, or at the least extremely minimized.  The new .dds format combined with Ishiiruka Dolphin's fast texture loading and built in mipmap utilization allows for the smoothest play experience possible while using these textures at their full resolution.  The resolution of the textures:  Most are 2048x2048 and 1024x1024, however the font and hud elements and some backgrounds get as large as 4096x4096.  These large sizes will keep this mod looking good into the 4K monitor era.

4.Updates 03/07/2015

Additions by CDAMJC include:
-Wii mote wrist strap loading screen
-Mario Galaxy Logo when starting the game and at end credits
-The Wii mote instruction screens for all motion controlled gesture tutorials
-About 70-80% of the environment is now re-textured
-More characters (all Mario suits excluding the boo suit which is to come, Luigi, Toad, and more to come) and enemies re-textured.
-Gradients on the horizon now smooth and no more "stair case effect".
-Mario suit seam on back fixed
-I have begun replacing the level preview screens that show up in the upper right when selecting a galaxy eventually all to be complete, currently all galaxies in the 1st dome and a few other galaxies are completed
-The mod has been converted to the new texture formats

I'm sure I forgetting a few things but that sums it up pretty well so far.  I will continue to be as active as I can here and keep updates going.

I hope you enjoy the mod, please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions etc...

With the new texture format region doesn't matter the textures should just work.

If you want to use the folder in the zip, you would need to rename the folder from RMGE01 to RMGP01 but that's it, the file names are already correct with the new format.

Sorry for any confusion.

Ah, great! Finally we don't have to use SAFE texture cache for the pack anymore ^^
Anyway, you do still have the PNG files also? Because very soon there might be a merge for custom texture precaching which would (given enough system RAM) eliminate the stuttering even with HD PNG files (though I'm fine with the quality of DDS).

Man, you have put a lot of work into this. I just played the honey hive galaxy and it seemed like everything was retextured. And also pretty nicely! I was a little skeptical when I read someone would continue razius' work, but you did a great job, there.
The only thing I noticed: Even with my computer (which should be over average ATM) I have little performance dips. It's only short dips to 58-59 FPS but it's enough to make a noticable stutter, especially through the sound. Those are not shader cache stutters which go away after the first time, those are custom texture stutters and they always happen with those giant textures (even with DDS) of small stuff like fonts, actually. The first one e.g. is always in the beginning when there's the title screen and the you get the stutter when the 'Press A + B' font pops up. The same stutter also happens (almost) every time you speak to someone and the font pops up. So I think those font textures should be made smaller; I'm sure there will be no visible difference anyway.
Unfortunately, my tools won't let me resize DDS files, that's also why I asked if you kept the original PNG files.

Are you using Ishiiruka? I get no stutters using Ishiiruka Dolphin but using the official builds, yes I get those exact stutters in those exact places, and slow down in those exact scenarios, as I did with the original pack in dds.

If you are getting that with Ishiiruka please let me know, I see your system specs and I can update the OP with stutter warning.
