FINALLY! I've been looking all over for this. Can you find the widescreen codes for Paper Mario 64?

Hi @gamemasterplc,

Would it be possible for you to make a 16:9 Gecko code for the GameCube hack of Super Mario 64, which uses the same emulator as Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time/Master Quest? I have released a build script to precisely recreate this release without posting any infringing code - the user must supply the SM64 ROM and the GameCube ISO:
https://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4662
It's a release someone made long ago, with an official looking loading screen, a proper save icon, and working save support. Swiss boots it fine but Force Text Mode needs to be set to ANSI since without a proper header it defaults to Japanese region and will ask to format the memory card.

I have tried applying your existing Master Quest Gecko code to it and I can confirm it does render 16:9, but some of the Zelda-specific hacks are breaking it a bit (bad centering of menus and a janky skybox). So presumably it only needs a bit of tuning for Super Mario 64.

Up until this point I've already tried injecting various 16:9 pre-patched N64 ROMs into the Master Quest emulator with no success. Your own recompiled from source version crashes on boot, and Kaze Emanuar's version locks up just after "It's-a-me Mario."

I suspect part of the reason there seems to be no 16:9 patch for this is because it's an unofficial release (so no Redump etc.) which is why I went to the trouble of making that builder. If you can make a Gecko code I can bundle that up with the builder (credited of course). With no Virtual Console this is the only way to play Super Mario 64 on GameCube, so it would be awesome to see it get the 16:9 treatment in 480p on real hardware, just like you've made possible for Ocarina of Time and Master Quest.

Just curious, but what's wrong with the Virtual Console version? The VC version probably offers the most solid experience besides obviously emulating it on a native Nintendo 64 emulator.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have less lag on the VC as well.

The VC has at least some recent support for ROM hacks like Redux or Star Road.

Can't speak for the Mario64 hack they mention but not everyone owns the VC versions of the Zelda games and with the shop closed down, there's no legit way to own them for Wii AFAIK.

I'm playing this on real GameCube hardware. A Gecko code would work on that, not only on Dolphin. Plus, as Admentus wrote above, the Virtual Console version can no longer be bought

Ahh, real hardware. That makes sense then.

You might want to consider the VC version on the Wii U instead. That should be relative easy to hack into 16:9 I believe. Plus, that should be more stable too. Provided of course you do have a Wii U. But that's a ticking time bomb as well, since the eShop on the Wii U is about to close as well.

The GameCube is the most recent Nintendo hardware I own. Gamemasterplc's widescreen hacks for the emulated N64 Zelda titles are amazing work. To see these at 704x480p on real hardware via HDMI (via a Carby) is fantastic. And his existing Gecko code for Master Quest so nearly works with Super Mario 64 so I figured it was worth reaching out to him on here. Incidentally this forum doesn't seem to have a mentions feature (with @username) and it seems I can't send PMs yet. Any chance you could PM him to notify him of my post? Thanks!

You could try looking him up on Discord. He might be around on the Discord64 server and some other servers. I think he's more active on there than on the forums. Otherwise if you want to PM him here on the forums you need about 10 posts in order to gain the permission for it. Just post some replies here in the forums and you have 10 posts before you know it.
