Well the Steam link dolphin bar combo might not work at the moment. However in the Steam forums a user has posted a success story with a different config. Instead of using the Steam Link as Dolphin Bar USB host, he was using a raspberry pie model b as host and the rest was run through the Steam link (graphics).
I have yet to receive my Dolphin Bar, but I will give this method a shot as soon as I have it (sometimes next week)
this might be a final use for my aging PI.
Also some users reported sound problems using the integrated VirtualHere host on Steam Link. So offloading the VirtualHere from Steam Link might be worthwhile generally to fix other issues.
I almost forgot, detailed install instructions can be found here http://www.virtualhere.com/oem_faq under Linux FAQ, the Raspberry instructions can be copied straightly from the browser to the console.
