Star fox advenures issue

Not sure if its an issue with the emulator or the actual game but i cant get the items menu to close in the Krystal section of the game meaning i cant really do anything besides run around i cant interact with any items because its still in the empty items menu.. anyone else having this problem or have any ideas to fix it?
