Hi,

I've tried many dolphin builds (incl. MMJ's )up to 5.0-11102 with varying results but one problem seems to persist:

No matter which options I try and combine - I can get "stable" 60 fps and very smooth vsync-like display for ~10-20 seconds, then (while still having 60fps) the "vsync-like" smooth display will start to judder for 2-3 seconds (sound NOT stuttering) and then get back to smooth again for 10~20 seconds. Rinse and repeat.

This happens @2x AND 1x internal resolution for Wii and Gamecube using GL and a GLAP bluetooth-gamepad. Vulkan is a no-go as it can't even reach 60fps/ 1 x int. resolution.

I'm pretty sure it's not a performance/ throttling -problem, because my phone is not throttling or powersaving and my governor(s) have been set to performance to no avail.

I know Flycast and PPSSPP are not as "heavy" as Dolphin but they run perfectly smooth @5x - 6x internal resoultion "endlessly" so I can at least say it's not a faulty phone in general.

Oneplus 7T Pro rooted
SD855+

regards,
Daz

Yup it is - there aren't any custom roms out (yet) anyway ...

It seems it's an Android 10 and/ or GPU-driver (?) problem. I ran the same build(s) on my old Motorola Z2 force (SD835 unrooted, no tweaks, Android 9) and while I don't get the same high performance it doesn't show this periodical judder at all.

I really wonder how other SD855+ devices perform ?

There's a vid on youtube running Dolphin on an OP7/ Android 9 perfectly fine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEFMG-97J5M
(I hope it's ok to link to YT-vids here ? There's nothing illegal in there ...)

Whatever, I hope Dolphin can address this sooner or later and the Vulkan-problems can be solved ...

Do you have the device set to 60hz in the device settings?

- Do you have the device set to 60hz in the device settings?

Dolphin will only run @90Hz, if you force an OP7TPro to do so (using the app Auto90 for example), so yes.
Strange thing is it looks like it runs much better @90Hz !? I still get the typical 60Hz-like smooth display, but it stutters way less. Not silky-smooth all the way, but better than running @60Hz.
It looks like Dolphin is not using "vsync" but limiting frames internally ? No idea.

- I tested just a couple of games on the 855+ with the latest mmj build and they work without stuttering at full speed (Open GL, 720p). I use stock Oxygen.

Which MMJ-build and which device (OP7T ?) are you using ? Latest I can find is 10763, but I get the same judder no matter how old/ new the build ist and if it's MMJ or official.
I'm pretty sure it's not my device itself, as every single other emulator I'm using runs perfectly fine. (Retroarch ~20 cores, PPSSPP, Citra ...)

I'd really like to test a "working" Dolphin RetroArch-core, but the latest builds are totally broken. (controls, JIT + fastmem).

Does anyone have the core version "1d973f4" from around march 2019 ? Even if it's not as great as the standalone, I'd at least like to see it running. I'd be really grateful for a link to this core or older cores in general.

thanks in advance ...

I'm using the Build 5.0-9494 v18 (mmj) with a OnePlus 7T Pro. I'm sure your device is ok. Has the latest official version the same problem?

I did try MMJ's 9494, but it's V7 - Whatever that means (?) I'll try to find a "V18" and test it.
I don't expect it to make a difference but who knows ...

All versions I tried (many !) show the same behaviour, no matter if MMJ or official.

I have to stress how picky about smooth framerates I am, so I'd like to know if you can run it as smooth as in the video I posted above ? You can see MarioKart Wii and it runs flawlessly @60 fps for a whole cup - apart from occasional shader-compilation stutters. He's using a Oneplus 7 (non T or PRO) on Android 9 and a 60Hz-only display.

On my 7TPro it usually runs fine for 20-30sec, followed by several seconds of stuttering and then returning to the next 20 seconds of smooth gameplay. Audio is 100% fine all the time. First I thought it's a performance/ throttling/ overheating thing, but that's rather unlikely, because it makes no difference if I run it @ 1x or 2x int. resolution, my phone does ot overheat/ throttle and my governors have been set to performance (ElementalX - rooted). This happens unrooted @stock kernel as well and was the reason #1 to root for me ...

I saw the video above. I just played Sonic Colours on 720p at 30 frames with just some occasional dips at 28-29 fps. Maybe you have some disturbing app? When it stutters fps goes really down?

You should really try Mario Kart Wii or any other stable 60fps game.

Do you have that OnePlus gaming and/or fnatic mode on ? I'm not sure what it REALLY does - I guess it's a governor thing and maybe a ram-cleaner, besides this msg-blocker.

My fps (technically) does NOT go down - it's ~59.x - 60.x all the time and the music plays absolutely clean even while stuttering. It looks like Dolphin and the display simply don't sync; maybe even too many frames ? I don't know. Strange thing is @90Hz it's still smooth like @60 but the stutter is greatly reduced. Ok, I can live with that but that's no real solution ...

The ONLY stable 60fps Dolphin/ mobile I've ever seen is that OP7 in the video.
