Square stick seems to have disappeared from the (Gamecube) controller options in 5.0. It was really useful for getting correct movement speed in the diagonals, where did it go?

That option only existed to help users with gamepads that had square joystick ranges. As bizarre as that sounds, it was a thing!

Considering no new gamepads have been made with that feature in over ten years, and even then it was pretty rare, there wasn't really any reason to keep the square stick option.

I'm using a Wii U Pro controller (through the Mayflash adapter) and despite the circular stick apertures, the output shows up as square in Dolphin's control configuration. The square stick setting evened it out quite nicely so I'm a bit disappointed to see it removed. Was it causing problems or something?

When you adjust the radius option down to 50 or 70, does it still appear square?

Yes, I have the left stick set to 50 already. In the cardinal directions the marker nicely reaches the edge of the grey area, but in the diagonals it reaches far outside (because of the 'square' rather than circular response). No, I don't understand either how a circular range of movement is mapping onto a square. All I know is that the now removed square stick option I could get the range of the stick to roughly follow the outside of the grey area.

Perhaps I should just buy one of those GC controller adapters already, I have plenty of GC controllers.

Hmm, I guess this is Mayflash failing then... *shrug*

Well, you don't really need any adapters for the Wii U Pro Controller! HID-Wiimote can connect Wii U Pro Controllers with Bluetooth.

EDIT: Oh right.

*waves her magic moderator wand*

Moved to controllers!
