Tiled floors, anyone? This one is used quite extensively all over the game:

Just a quick heads up, yesterday I added support for both PAL and NTSC (as you can see now the mod folder is just called GXP),
created custom tailored, high-resolution fonts for the USA version and checked that most of the other textures work fine. Hey 64fanatic, can you take a look and report back? Should be pretty playable already. 07-10-2016, 06:29 PM
Is this mod supposed to work with the US version of the game? Well, according to the description of the mod it's supposed to, but the problem is that only a part of the textures gets replaced, and all the text remains low-res. Here's how it looks like:

Here's how it looks like: Most of the textures should work, as both versions share most of the models. The problems with the NTSC version are mainly related with the older English font atlases and some interface elements. Basically the game uses three fonts per language. 4 * 8 different font textures that have to be manually edited/rebuilt as HQ vectors for the game to use them. It's a lot of work. By the way. Use PAL versions when possible. They tend to be more polished. In this game in particular the latter version makes possible to capture some monsters that only spawn once in the NTSC counterpart, without them you can't finish the museum collection. It also fixes some savegame issues in certain points, where you could get stuck forever. I understand that if you are far into the game it's a bit late. I'll try to make that missing font.
Nevermind, download again the newest ZIP and replace your current version of the texture pack. Delete the older folder and put the new one in place instead of overwriting.
I have just created an scalable version of the NTSC portal/item/monster picker font. Let me know if there's any alignment problem. I could only test the alignment of some combinations of glyphs. Even if it should be acceptable. Have fun!
By the way. I also just added an HQ loading screen. Pretty happy with how it ended up turning out!
(That inner reddish gradient is a buggy background which is no longer present in the PAL version. Not my fault. The original loading screen has the same visual problem.) 07-11-2016, 06:35 PM
Wow, that is some fast fix! I've just checked it and now everything seems to work properly - both text and icons. Will continue playing the US version then. Thanks a lot, swyter, that's a really great job you've done with these HD textures!

I have updated the texture pack again with a tweaked font which improves legibility and and a pair of redrawn Abydos Birdmen (Guards, which were awfully lowres, and Masked woman). Take a look: (Open those images in a new tab to compare them) Is it better? |
