Greeting I'm opening up this thread to talk about the rumors spec wise of the upcoming Note 8 and how it will perform with the Dolphin Emulator. As nothing is finalized just yet everything is of course hypothetical but I wanted to get to know the community take on this topic.
Speculation on the Note 8 Running the Dolphin Emulator.

haha remember when users speculated on the S8?
and the Snapdragon 821 devices and the Snapdragon 820 devices and the Snapdragon 808 devices It will likely be identical to the S8 in most regards. Plays easier to emulate titles fine, many popular titles will probably run 15-25 fps just like every video shows. Fortunately proper timestretch audio makes that less bad. *waits for the "well if you break games by using CPU underclock--" response*
I'm thinking if cpu can get 3000+ score on geekbench single core then maybe it is will run dolphin at acceptable speed. Also no new processor available so note 8 will use same cpu as s8, so same speed probably.
Every processor (that use arm design such as exynos, MTK, snapdragon) is dependent on ARM to release new one, the newest one is A73 which is perform almost the same with A72. Maybe the next version will have score that surpass 3000 single core test on geekbench. 05-26-2017, 11:56 AM

Most modern SoCs throttle HARD after a minute or so of 100% utilization (the pessimist in me goes "Designed to last exactly the length of $BENCHMARKS") which makes it mostly useless for real use. That's why you get silly things like Mali-g71s running at 1.1ghz - that after 2 minutes can't get above 500mhz. That's why I'm pretty excited about the a73 - if it gives the same peak performance as an a72 but at a significantly lower power. 05-26-2017, 05:37 PM
Not really sure what the point of this is. The only thing you're talking about is the front panel, not the specs. Most likely the CPU will be the same as the s8 like it has for the last two Galaxy Note devices. And it'll still be using Mali GPUs outside of North America which still isn't properly compatible with Dolphin.

So you all think that the new note won't have any tricks up its sleeve? The note ushally pushes the boundary hardware wise and they have to also make up for the firebombing battery Fiasco. So I do still think there hope for under the hood change. I just hope the Dolphin project will run smoothly and not have the graphical glitches note 5 has. That can't be fixed for one reason or another.

Trick as for smartphone tricks, as emulator standpoint, nothing changes, still same as other phone with SD 835 at best, don't get your hope up too much, you better wait until ARM create new CPU design, that's when performance will improve.

It's chipset designs are what's used in most smartphones today. So, when you see someone use the phrase "A53 of A73", that person is referencing a cpu core designed by ARM. As for the Note 8, it likely will only have a marginal performance improvement(if any) over the S8. Since Qualcomm announced the 835, there hasn't been any major announcements of new mobile processors for the premium segment. We may see a new major announcement later this year though. 05-27-2017, 03:03 PM
Right, A73 is the newest one, speed is almost the same as A72. Snapdragon 835 design is modified from A72, so unless new performance / big core design coming, you will not see performance jump even on new phone, since they still use same base design for processor.
Your best bet right now for dolphin emulator is shield tv, it use older A57 but with higher clock and better GPU, best GPU in mobile currently. |
