Spartan: Total Warrior - Control Issue

Hi, new to wii and Gamecube emulation but not to emulation in general. I understand that the gamecube controller has some pretty funny triggers in the sense that they're a pressure sensitive trigger until they're maxed out in which case they become a button. I love Total Warrior. I think it's one of the best games SEGA has ever made and maybe even one of the best games ever made by anybody. If you played it, you very well may agree with me.

Well, here lies the problem. The L and R triggers are very essential to your survival in this game. The R trigger controls blocking, which seems to work just fine, and the L trigger initiates what are called "rage" attacks which are damn near necessary to get anywhere in this game. When I push the L trigger, plain and simple, nothing happens. I'm using a PS2/3 style controller which seems to work fine with EVERY other game and every other essential control for this game works but the damn L trigger! I don't understand it! I'm at my wit's end! I've tried remapping it to other buttons and nothing seems to work. If anybody has managed to play this game and get the L trigger to work, information would be greatly appreciated. I was watching a video of a guy playing this on this very same emulator and he didn't use rage attacks the whole time either so I think it might be a common problem and not an isolated incident. There are also functions in this game mapped under "L Button click" as it's called in the game which I'm assuming is simply the L trigger bottomed out so that it's not just "L Analog" anymore as it's listed in the controller configuration section of the emulator options. Any help appreciated! If any of you get the time, give this game a try and see if you can get it to work. I'm cleaned fresh outta ideas for this. I'm thinking it has something to do with the pressure sensitive nonsense of these triggers but I don't think there's some sort of sweet spot for pulling the trigger to initiate these attacks in-game as it's a very fast-paced hack'n'slash style game and something like that would be debilitating to the player. Plus, the game mentions nothing about how much to press "L button". Please! HAAAALLLPPPP! :0

Sounds like whatever driver you're using for your PS3 controller is failing to register the trigger buttons as actual triggers, but as regular buttons.

You'll have to fix that on your end.

Damn! I tried it with two different controllers though and the triggers seem to work fine on other games like smash bros and timesplitters. I'll keep at it, see if I can figure it out. The two controllers I used are a Logitech Rumblepad 2 (which the triggers actually are buttons now that I think about it) and a PS4 controller which has actual triggers. If I figure it out, I'll post a solution in case anyone else runs into this silly issue. Tongue

If I could clarify a bit, I've noticed that this thread has a pretty specific focus on controller settings.

THIS IS NOT A CONTROLLER ISSUE. The function, or lack thereof, of the triggers on a physical controller is not related to the issue the OP was discussing.

The issue is that Spartan Total Warrior lacks functionality for the left trigger. I have tested this by mapping the left trigger to various different buttons, and regardless of which button it is mapped to, the game does not register it.

If you want to be absolutely sure that the game does nothing when L is pressed, you need to make sure that both L and L-Analog are mapped and that you are using an analog control rather than a digital button. Otherwise the game will receive inputs that are noticeably different from what you would get from a real GameCube controller.

Also, please don't bump threads that are this old. Locking.
