"Ok, you've probably seen/heard PIPA and I assume that you saw the Google homepage yesterday, so I'm going to get right to the point - PIPA, and its even worse House-cousin SOPA, will not stop piracy, will hurt the track record of innovation in the past 15 years, will stifle job creation and the economy's recovery. I also have some evidence to point this out.
According to Wikipedia and its sources, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PROTECT_IP_Act), the editor of this Wikipedia article states that "A legal analysis by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) notes concerns by opponents such as American Express and Google that the inclusion of a private cause of action would result in stifled Internet innovation, protect outdated business models and at the cost of an overwhelming number of suits from content producers" Also, this glaring problem of sorts isn't just noticed by lawyers and people who work in the technology industry, even regular people are noticing this (http://www.webpronews.com/sopa-ignores-o...cy-2012-01). Heck, even my parents notice this!
I know you support PIPA and possibly SOPA too, and I understand why you made that decision. Piracy is a very real and damaging crime, and I hope that there is at least one piece of legislation that comes through to stop online piracy. But however, it is clear I do not support PIPA and SOPA because it will inevitably hurt the economy (and the government's credibility) in the long run. I don't mind if you don't pull your support for PIPA, just keep this thought in the back of your mind please. "
