The only way to tell if there's an actual problem with Dolphin is to start over without cheats or save states. Using either of them basically invalidates any bug reports having to do with memory cards, since using them often ruins your ability to save properly.

You won't be able to change Dolphin version and keep your progress, savestates don't work perfectly all the time, and like you said yourself, you can't use things like Chao World. I guess you don't have much choice for this game since regular saving apparently doesn't work, but only using savestates is a bad idea in general. 01-17-2016, 11:23 AM

I created a new memory card and played a few levels and chao garden without cheats. Chao garden worked at first. Loading level save states didn't effect the memory, but loading chao garden save states permanently prevented the ability to save both levels and chao garden, at least if save states were used from then on. Turning the game off and on and loading the memory card fixes this. Someone said something about time cheats effecting memory card saving. Chao evolve and die in time spent in the chao garden. So I think that the memory card problem is created by loading save states in the chao garden because of altering time, which is significant in the chao garden.

But I had the issue without using save states! Some hours ago, I finished the Hero and Dark storyline on Dolphin 3.5 and my save file is still intact.
So this is definitely a Dolphin 4.0 thing. Have there been any special improvements for this game in the development? Maybe one of those messed up the saving behaviour.
