like the thread says this is something that occurred to me and its been bugging me for a while why not just split dolphin into two emus? (one for gamecube and one for wii) yes i know both systems are very similar in hardware (not sure if the games are coded the same though there probably is difference in the coding between the systems for the games) while yes splitting dolphin into two emus would probably require quite a bit of work, it would make it to where people who want to focus on completing the gamecube support would be able to do so without having to worry about breaking anything wii related(which i don't really see a point in supporting since you need a pretty powerful computer or know how to tweak the emu just right for each game to get decent speed anyways)

... yea i felt like ranting a bit to get this out of my head to make it stop bugging me.

How many issues are there that are caused by conflicts between the two hardwares?

no idea personally i'm just suggesting it cause it seems that some people like to focus on the wii aspect while others want the gamecube aspect finished but i have noticed that occasionally when an update adds compatibility to a wii game at least 1 gamecube game stops working and besides that not all gamecube games will run on dolphin yet (if you want examples try to play geist or xiii neither of them work on dolphin last i checked) so I'd say splitting the emus sounds like a good idea a pain in the rump to execute but still a good idea, though i can't name any game that got broken by an error that added compatibility to a wii game personally (i don't own alot of either system tbh mostly because 1. gamecube games are a pain to find offline(i don't shop online) 2. i don't have a wii myself so i'm not about to get most of the games i only have a few and that's only because i got bored and decided to get them to try them on dolphin)

The two biggest differences that the Wii makes to Dolphin are the Wiimote and the Wii NAND file system. Most of the rest of the code is common to both systems. i.e. neither system is hampering the development. The biggest boost we could get right now is to have more developers join the project.
