Quote:First Question: Do the names like "Junior Member" mean anything?

It just refers to your rank in relation to post counts. Post more and it changes to something else. You can change it yourself though in your User Control Panel. It's called Custom User Title (mine is Linux User/Tester for example.

Quote:Second Question: Do the stars mean anything and how do I increase them?

The stars are a reflection on how many posts you have. The more you post, the more you get. Regular members reach a certain limit after hitting 1000 posts (7 or 8 stars, I forget).

Quote:Third Question: How can I make my own signature?

You need to have 10 or more posts, then the signature option will be available to you in your User Control Panel.

Quote:Fourth Question: How can I make a thread be classified as "Hot"?

Hot threads are threads that have 150+ views OR 20+ posts. I mean, if you kept refreshing the page, that's one way, but that's kinda... cheap. Hot threads are marked naturally if there's a lot of activity.
