I loaded up a game I was playing last night and actually saved twice because I've had this problem before and both save states the gamepad isn't working and changing it and setting it back up in the settings doesn't fix the issue it continues to not work. If a developer or admin tells me not to use save states, then what is the point of the save state? Save states work in every emulator and don't break the controls, so why does it happen in dolphin and how can I fix it. Playing monster hunter tri if it matters.
Turns out the game had been left on for a little while before I initiated the save. This made the console do a sort of power save, disconnecting the controller in the process. In order to fix it you have to reconnect the controller (think power it back on if you were on an actual wii). To reconnect it in dolphin, alt + f5.
