I'm kinda wondering if DirectX12 will mean anything significant to Dolphin. Will it bring improvements? Will Dolphin be compatible with it?

The guys back at PCSX2 seemed to have the input of "Well it might provide a little boost in situations with no upscaling but that's it", or something of that sort. Here's the post I made there if you care to see what their input was.

What about Dolphin's input? I use Dolphin mainly to play Tales of Symphonia and I'm hoping that this might let me upscale a little more.

By the way, while I'm here, I thought I'd let you know that I experienced a MAJOR slowdown today in ToS with Revision 7088 and had to downgrade back to 7040. Not sure if you mighta caught what it was by now or if it was intentional or what.

Thanks!

Pretty sure Devs said that OpenGL 4.5 already provides everything the Emulator needs but that was a while ago so I dunno

Sure, but we're talking about speedups, not support of what it needs.

I still use Direct3D instead of OpenGL because OpenGL is significantly slower on my Windows computer.

Though hopefully DirectX12 will also introduce some things that OpenGL currently has over D3D I guess.

I'm pretty sure the devs just said to wait and see until dx12 actually releases to see what it brings to the table (if anything). Personally I would be more excited about the Vulkan api, as it will NOT be windows 10 exclusive.

Ah, I thought they might know from the previews or from things that would be available to developers by now.

What I said included speedups. We'll see in 5 days if that was completely true though.

So far the devs have been doubtful it will improve performance. However it's unlikely they'll know for sure until they have a chance to start playing with it. Many proposed speedups in the past ended up not actually helping once the implementations were created and tested. And vice versa.

I'll tell OP the same thing I've said in every one of the 10,000 other threads with this same subject. We need to wait. Asking this question now is useless. The devs will let us know if they find anything worth exploring.

i know to use d3d12 features, the d3d backend needs to be modified to support it, but are there any improvement in the d3d11 mode in d3d12,{ie feature level 11_1).dont know, but i have been running win10 for a while, and i have been seeing some good speedups over ogl in games, esp sonic colours(i can apply the 60fps patch and play at mostly >90% speed on d3d, but 70-80% on ogl with 2x res, while on win8.1 i had to play with ogl at 30fps,cause there was no speed difference between ogl and d3d}.i prefered ogl when i had win8.1 due to it having better compatibility with my vga.

I got Windows 10 and I have definitely noticed a speed up in OGL. It's always run better than D3D for me.

I would like to see some verifiable proof of that if you have the time. I'm willing to bet that it's a placebo effect or that some other change you made caused it.
