Well after 2 short years my cooler master silent pro hybrid 1300w (what a mouthful) died on me out of the blue. It didn't die in a toasty array of sparks or anything extraordinary luckily. I was just gaming like normal nothing seemed off had no random reboots or any type of performance issue that could result from a dying psu but I turned off my computer one night woke up 6 hours later to find out my computer wouldnt turn back on. I hooked it up to my extra test rig to see if maybe it was the mobo or something else but no power at all just nothing. It wasn't like there was a power surge or anything that night either it just decided not to turn back on never actually found out why it died. But because of it I was down for a week without a psu and not having a computer sucked a lot. But I replaced it with a seasonic 750w psu even though 750w is still more then I actually need for my current rig. Needless to say I don't know if I want to buy another cooler master psu since it just stopped working so sudden with no warning signs at all.

It did look nice in my case (besides the wiring at the time) http://i.imgur.com/96j0SZF.jpg

with the seasonic one the psu case was either meant for top mounting or the fan to be sucking air from inside the computer. I have the fan facing down on the bottom of my computer so I get too look at the ugly side of the psu. http://i.imgur.com/ecZRLRk.jpg

That sucks man. Glad it didn't take anything else with it. According to reviews that PSU is pretty decent, so it's interesting it failed so soon...
Also, CM has a five year warranty on it. Why don't you make use of it?

CM customer service is kind of crappy and it will take weeks if not months to get a replacement and from what I was told since they no longer sell the 1300w they offered me some semi modular 1000w psu and I would have to pay to ship the psu to them of course. So I figured it wasn't even worth the wait because I wanted my computer back up as soon as possible.

probably why they stopped selling them and offered a different psu to replace it with. I have actually found a good handful of people who also had my issue where it just wouldn't turn back on after a normal shut down. Kind of sad that a high rated psu with high end parts died so fast. None the less I have moved onto seasonic since everyone swears up and down that they are one of the top psu manufactures.

I would have been pretty pissed if it did, I was fairly sure nothing was taken out with it because it didn't pop or explode and nothing smelt burnt it just never turned back on. I think I may take the fan out of the dead 1300w and throw it into my friends computer since he has a coolermaster elite 431 case with an fx 8350 and gtx 770(my old cpu/gpu gave to him for free Tongue) and things tend to run pretty warm. He has only an intake fan and no exhaust fan.

I just Googled very briefly and saw reasonable results as well as this review which made it look good. I'm going to guess it's made by a crappy manufacturer or was dodgy (but with so many bad reviews it must really be unreliable).
You can always use this as a reference for which PSU to get or what to look for. Although a bit dated, it's still a nice list with a lot of info including the manufacturer.

At the time the silent pro hybrid was new from coolermaster so not many people had it but from tech reviewers on paper and in tests it performed great it wasn't until months or even years that people had problems with the 1300w psu. Non the less I went with a well known high quality brand after doing some research on seasonics cheaper m12II evo line. While the m12II is an older model of psu's the evo is basically the same thing just fully modular. But hey it's tried and tested and it's known to hold up well and even meets that ridiculously stupid haswell certification.

Well brand != manufacturer. Some brand (eg: Cooler Master) PSUs are actually made by different manufacturers.
But yeah, your dead PSU wasn't very popular at all. And for good reason. Guess we can all learn a lesson from it.

That Seasonic you chose is a good choice. Should be very solid.

I got a CM V750S atm (manufactured by Enhance Electronics) which replaced my OCZ ModXtreme Pro 600W which I think is on its last legs.
Just semi-modular unfortunately, but it should be rock solid.
