So, I'm going to get a new computer...

Poll: Will my computer be able to run games decently?
Oh, yeah. You'll definitely be able to run all your games with the graphics settings you mentioned.
Well, you'll be able to run games, but you might want to reconsider your choice in graphics options for it to work.
You'll be able to run some games with the graphics options you mentioned, but some will have to have lower graphics settings.
You'll be able to run some games, but don't get your hopes up with the lowest settings.
You'll be able to run Dolphin on that machine when pigs fly (by themselves, no airplane assistance).

Question
Hi there,

So, it's my first post, I've read the rules for this section, and they seem pretty rough. I'm not quite sure if this post is going to be closed, but it's worth a try I guess.

So, I'm getting a new computer soon, a Lenovo Y510p, with the following specs:

Intel Core i7-4700MQ Quad-Core Haswell
8GB of DDR3 RAM
Two Nvidia Geforce GT 750Ms in SLI (with 2GB of GPU RAM each, 1GB DDR3 and 1GB GDDR5, read more about the GPU here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M-SLI.91280.0.html)
Windows 8.1

The screen is 1920x1080, as well.

I would probably use the latest version of Dolphin, but if it gains me speed without any issues, I may downgrade to 3.5 or even 3.0.

I would probably play my whole collection at some point, which consists of:

TLoZ: Wind Waker (Gamecube)
Wii Play (Wii, not to be confused with Wii Play Motion)
Sonic Adventure DX (Gamecube, but only maybe, I have the PC port as well so I would only play this if something doesn't work out with the PC port)
TLoZ: Skyward Sword (Wii)
Pacman World 2 (Gamecube)
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Wii)
TLoZ: Twilight Princess (Wii)
Super Paper Mario (Wii)
Namco Museum (Gamecube)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Wii Music (Wii)
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (Wii)
Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues (Wii)
Fifa Soccer 2002 (Gamecube)
Cook Wars (Wii, you may want to look that one up, wins my "Worst Wii Game of All Time" award, just for the frame-rate)

And probably more, as I still buy Wii games, they're dirt cheap now. As you can see, I play all manner of games, so... yeah. Really, what I'm asking is, can the computer with the specs above run games rendering at 720p, maybe even 1080p, with a small amount of AA in there as well, at 100% speed? I also feel just fine without AA, and lower resolution, but the above would be preferred. I really just want to be able to play my Wii/Gamecube games collection with much improved graphics. I might even try some texture packs, I'm not quite sure at this point. I would also use a real Wii remote for all the Wii games on that list (I mean, who wouldn't), and a Logitech USB wireless Xinput/Directinput configurable controller for the Gamecube games.

I would also like to ask if Dolphin even supports SLI. If not, then I'm as good as asking if pigs can fly with this post. It's possible, as you can put a pig on an airplane, but it's not exactly optimal, either, because the pig would probably have some health problems by the end, not to mention everyone else on the plane would hear squealing the entire flight. Anyways, I do hope that I can get some help here, preferably without a closed thread on my hands.

You can alternatively use the poll, it's much quicker than writing a post.

Edit: Any laptop suggestions/input can be posted in this thread over in the HTG Discussion forum topic I have had going for the past couple of weeks: http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/help-me-find-the-perfect-computer/14029 . Any other input related to this topic can stay in this topic, though.

You don´t need SLI for Dolphin (it´s useless). The rig should be enough for your games, though.
Rig 1: Windows 10 Home | AMD A6-1450 @ 600/1000/1400 MHz | AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250 | 4GB RAM | HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11.

Rig 2: Windows 10 Pro | Intel Core i7-2640M @ 780/2800/3500 MHz | Intel HD 3000 Mobile | 8GB RAM | Dell Latitude 6320.

Oh, ok. And I should probably tell you that the post you just made, it was your 888th post. Congrats!

But I would like to get multiple opinions, so the post is still open for answers.

GT 750M is still a bit slower than GTX 650 (desktop)
With GTX 650 , you can expect 3x Internal Resolution (1920x1584) , no AA , 16x AF in most games
As mentioned above , Dolphin doesn't support : Dual CPU , Dual GPU , Crossfire , SLI
The new architecture maxwell from Nvidia : GTX 850M is faster than GTX 765M but it still keep low power consumption (low heat output)

Not all PC games support SLI , Crossfire , Dual GPU ...

The CPU is a great choice for Dolphin. It's what I have, and I haven't had problems with a CPU bound game yet.
Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
I've played these games that you have:

TLoZ: Wind Waker (Gamecube)
Lego Star Wars II (Gamecube)
TLoZ: Twilight Princess (Gamecube)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

You may want to look into getting a dedicated gaming laptop. The y510p has the CPU and GPU on the same heatsink, so if one gets too hot it can throttle the other. That won't happen on a gaming laptop with separate heatsinks (also there's a lot of extra bezel around the screen that distracts from using the computer. My friend has one, and we both don't like it). They will cost a bit more, but (at least for me), the cost is justified by having a stronger gaming laptop.

Look into Sager laptops. They're good looking and moderately priced for a gaming laptop.

Do you have a Sager laptop, or have experience to speak of? If so, can you tell me a little bit about your experience with it? Their specs just seem too good to be true for the prices. Also, do you recommend a reseller, if any?

PS. Sorry, I've replied 2 days late, it seems.

Edit: I've actually got a thread over in the HTG Discussion forums about how I need suggestions/help about picking a new computer. I just made a new post about how Sager laptops might be a good idea. If you want to discuss that, you can find the thread here: http://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/help-me-find-the-perfect-computer/14029 . Otherwise, you can post in this thread. I also am going to edit the top post with this new info.

Brand name doesn't really matter, it's all about the hardware specs. Though some brands have better built quality than others. If you ask me, it's really depends on your budget.

Yeah, I recommend Sager because that's what I have Tongue

I ordered through XOTIC PC. The Sager website had some specials going on last week. Don't know if they're still going on

My build is the NP8235, with the i7-4700MQ, GTX 770M, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate (from my university, I ordered it without an OS).
I'm very pleased with it, and haven't had any problems with it. If you want to know more about a specific model, Google search "__Model____ Owners Lounge." Its a bunch of people discussing that specific build, and is full of information.
