If it is based on the 888 platform on Samsung’s 5nm node I would still expect issues, just not as pronounced. They have lost efficiency in the move to Samsung’s advanced node. If it was somehow based on the 865 then we might have a chance at something. For my money I wouldn’t expect to see an increase in effective performance from Qualcomm in 2021 outside of niche gaming phones with excessive cooling capacity

Samsung Exynos 2100 arrives (exact same core as SD888) https://www.cnx-software.com/2021/01/13/samsung-exynos-2100-5g-mobile-soc-offers-cortex-x1-core-lpddr5-memory-and-more/

Why would whole chip be power hungry and overheats being at the same time lower clocked and having lower process node? Is it 5G modem that make chip unbalanced? It is true that cortex-x1 is advertised as better at integer operations (only that) and NPU operations (nobody cares). Are we missing something here?

A miracle (it’s only a bit faster than 865 though so I wouldn’t jump for joy beyond getting it in a new device)

The clocks are not lower, they are around the same. The issue is that Samsung’s 5nm node is less
advanced then TSMC so the switch impacted what the 888 could achieve. The exynos 2100 is not affected by this switch so it should fare better.

Nice to see OEM’s adopting it in some form, but hopefully some OEM’s that actually make good phones can adopt it. 105hz? And the update policy is abysmal so if there’s any issues with something like dolphin you will be waiting a very very long time for an update.

I have decided to buy the S21 ultra with the Exynos chip.
In Germany you can return anything you buy online within a month, so if the performance is worse than my 855 I will be returning it.
So expect a comparison video in early February!
Long time Mobile Emulator freak. Used to be very active on pspupdates...Good old times. Angel

Samsung Galaxy S21 benchmarks (vanilla, 8GB Exynos 2100). Not tested against any Snapdragon 888 or 870 yet. They could benchmark using Dolphin too, that would save us a lot of trouble...  Big Grin

The short version is between 865 and unthrottled 888, but it very clearly doesn’t throttle as much as 888 so it will pull ahead by virtue of that alone. I think the 865/870 will still remain the overall champ if emulators are a priority, but otherwise it’s clear that Qualcomm isn’t going to catch a break
