hello, I want to buy a phone to use the Dolphin emulator, my options are Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro with snapdragon 650 / adreno 510 and the other is LeTV Le 1 Pro with snapdragon 810 / adreno 430, what do you recommend? Thank you.
Snapdragon 810 or Snapdragon 650?

Neither.
One is too slow. The other overheats very quickly and will also be slow. 07-15-2016, 09:19 AM
No. The Mali GPU is slow. As well as Helio chips just being meh in general.
Outside of emulation, the most recent (Not high end Krait, 808/810) Qualcomm chips are fine.
Both the 810 and the 650 are fine, but not for dolphin. Right now, there is *no* (read: zero!) ARM device powerful enough to play lots of games. They will improve, and it's fun to hack on ARM (the instruction set is so much nicer compared to x86), but it's not a good plattform to emulate quite powerful devices.
Hint: The Wii has a 729 MHz out-of-order CPU. Up-to-date "powerful" ARM CPUs have like a factor of 2 to 3. Throughput per cycle is even worse, A57 is on par to the Wii's PPC, A72/73 are a bit better. The by far more common A53 is much worse (factor 2, so this eliminates the higher clock speed). So what do you think how many ARM instructions are required to emulate a single PPC instruction? I'd guess 5-10... This was the rant about the CPU itself. Did you have a look at the mobie GPU drivers? 07-15-2016, 07:19 PM

I understand that none of these is good for emulation. 650 better than the 810? 810 overheats and degrades performance so I think 650 has a constant and better performance, I'm right? I want to be sure to buy the right phone, thank you.
Just check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Qu...on_devices
810 has 4x A57 @ 2.0GHz 650 has 2x A72 @ 1.8GHz So I'd suggest the 650. It has a higher single threaded performance, but the lower multi threaded. Dolphin care about the former. But it's still too slow for dolphin. |
