Picking up a nextbit robin next week, curious how the snapdragon 808 fares on a modern dolphin build with up to date drivers.

Ouch. Well hopefully the Robin's thermal profile is not the same (I've read reviews saying the device can get extremely hot while gaming, which does bode well for a larger thermal profile). Having only a 1080p display could also keep the device cooler, as LG's initial QHD displays are known to generate a significant amount of heat by themselves. Either way I did not prioritize buying the device explicitly for dolphin, as I have a computer for actually playing dolphin. I am more looking to have a means of actually using the latest builds again to keep up with the progress being made.

Well , if you want a phone for Dolphin , you must steer clear of Snapdragon. I have Snapdragon 810 (Sony Z4) but it's still slow for Dolphin
My phone run cool when gaming btw . Some people said Z4 would overheat like crazy but i guess it's just the luck of the draw

Hah I've been following dolphin long enough to know Qualcomm is basically the AMD of android. I didn't buy this device for dolphin, hence why I ordered it a week before I even thought to ask about dolphin. I really at this point am just looking for rudimentary testing capabilities, as I intend to pick up a Pixel C or shield TV soon enough.

Are you referring to the Xperia Z4 phone or the tablet? My mother own a Xperia Z3+ (aka Z4 depending of where you live) and yeah, it overheats like crazy (that's probably not an issue on the Z4 tablet since it's way bigger so the heat probably dissipates better). I could also test a Xperia Z5 too (which is Snapdragon 810 too) and the improvement was huge, the device still got warm but it sustained a higher clock for waaay more time than the Z3+. Anyway, both were still utterly slow for Dolphin...

Z3+ , same as yours . Most people call it Z4, even the amazon sellers , so I went with that
At first, I didn't care much about the overheating issue because I bought it for only 1/4 the price ...But it turns out to be a good phone . So 2 birds 1 stone , i guess

Xperia Z5 has dual heat pipes soldered in to dissipate heat. That's how crazy this processor is. I'm surprised the Z5 doesn't fare a bit better though. Maybe it's the CPU governor but I would think that the difference in stable clocks would be a huge difference.

Z5 did fare a bit better in Dolphin when compared to Z3+ (about 4-6 FPS more in most cases) but the FPS still were hitting the lower 20's even on lightweight games...

That's not really true. From what I've seen mali drivers are worse than adreno and the sd821 is the best for dolphin on mobile at the moment. But still not at playable speeds for almost all games. Like this for the Pixel

Does anyone know how demanding emulating Outset Island is compared to the rest of Wind Waker?
