Hi there, I'm trying to play dolphin on my new quad core laptop, but I get a speed of about 50% when trying to play Super Smash Bros Brawl. My Computer should be good enough to handle this game. Specs as follows

AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.4 GHZ (But can turbo boost to 2 GHZ)
8 GB DDR 3 Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6520G (My Laptop has 2 graphics cards but I believe it only uses this one when using dolphin)
Windows 7 64 bit

When emulation starts FPS is at 50 and speed is at 100% But as soon as the starting intro is played speed drops to around 50% and FPS to around 25.

Can someone please help me with this problem, I really want to play this game.

Thanks

Well, your CPU is too weak for Dolphin, 2 GHz are not enough. Besides, AMD's CPU architecture is not the best compared to Intel's.

Well that sucks... My CPU is only using 57% while dolphin was running, and my comp plays any other game ok. I'm surprised my comp can run Diablo 3 but not this. Oh well, thanks for the info.

Emulators are not equal to modern PC games, they use hardware in different ways. Most PC games today let the GPU do the heavy lifting and don't stress the CPU as much, hence you can play PC games with high settings even if your CPU is midrange, as long as your GPU can handle it.

In Dolphin, the GPU is responsible for things like internal resolution, antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. Once your GPU has satisfied those, there's not much else it can add to Dolphin's performance. Most of the rest relies on the CPU.

My system actually has minor slowdowns sometimes using SSBB. It is only brief (and I do use LLE), but they happen sometimes even on awesome setups.

Thought I'd register to let anybody with the same problem have the fix.

I've run into the exact same problem on my new laptop with a few different emulators, the emulation speed would never go beyond almost exactly 50% or 51% and the FPS was half of what it should of been (30FPS)

I'd gone out earlier in the day and had set my windows power settings to power saver.
Set it back to Higher Performance and everything was working at 100%.

I know this is a really old post, but it might solve the problem for others. It also explains why the Sim City Beta demo was running awful when only the day before I'd been playing other games at higher resolutions and 60fps Big Grin

Well... try this: update the emulator to the latest version
enable dual core
render to main window
and this is experimental:
enable multi thread(open mp)

REMEMBER! The Resolution also impact the performance!
Current System:
OS: Windows 7 ultimate
CPU: Intel Pentium® Dual Core 3.2 Ghz
GPU: Intel G45 Tongue
RAM: 4GB
Dolphin Revision: 4.0 latest build

This thread is coming up on 2 years, and the OP is no longer registered here. What makes you think they'll see this? Please don't go digging up old threads like that; there's a time frame for when information is useful, and we're past that.
