Hello all

With slow depth removed in the latest dev builds - how can I stop the flickering shadows in Starfox Adventures?

Slow depth wasn't removed in the latest dev builds! It just isn't the default anymore and was disabled for a few games that don't need it anymore.

If you need to force slow depth, I'm not sure if you can do that from the GUI, but you can set ForcedSlowDepth to True in the GameINI.

But there are still many instances where slow depth is more accurate. The last story has a screwed up menu with fast depth for example

Yes, I should have said the option to turn off fast depth has been removed.

While it's true it can be set in the GameINI, isn't that overridden each time Dolphin is updated?

And confusing for novice users?

It just seems to me an odd decision to remove the GUI option when some games depend on it.

No. Only the INIs in the Sys folder are overwritten when Dolphin is updated, and you're not supposed to edit those, you're supposed to edit the INIs in the configuration folder (Documents/Dolphin Emulator).

I think the intent behind it was that games that depend on it would have slow depth set in their INIs out of the box. If that's not the case, that's a problem. Please make reports on the bug tracker for games that need slow depth but don't have it set in the default INI: https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/projects/emulator

Also, some GPUs don't support fast-depth, and have slow-depth forced on now. I expect most of the bugs will come from that. Last Story's menu is fine for me.

I've tried setting 'ForcedSlowDepth = True' in the INI and them shadows are still a flickerin'

I have an Nivdia GTX 970.

Turning off Fast depth in the GUI would definitely fix the problem in previous builds.
