So has work on the texture pack been abondoned? It looks like the last update was back in February. I'm just restarting Skyward Sword so I was wondering how much of the game is covered, is it mainly just Skyloft and UI elements?

Hey there!
You're very welcome and we definitely love this project but I think we've both been quite busy lately.
Ellie and I have been talking back and forth up until May about updates and finishing off some last bits.
The pack covers parts of the whole game but mostly we have only inspected up to Eldin Volcano (inclusive of Eldin Volcano).

I have tried contacting Ellie again about the latest pile of textures which I should be able to sort and compile in 2 weeks tops if I get a reply.

Also I have considered contacting Nintendo/Tantalus about offering our textures to them. If anyone has any ideas about that, feel free to PM me or post here.

Thanks Everyone.

Nice! I'd read through the thread but didn't realise you'd got to that stage. In that case I'll keep a close eye on this thread and your blog for updates while I'm playing over the next few weeks.

I've no idea how Nintendo would respond to such an approach but they've spoken about keeping a balance between improving textures and not losing the feel of the original title in TPHD interviews which is something your pack does. I personally really appreciate that you've stuck to the original art style with the textures. I don't think a Skyward Sword remake/remaster is likely to come any time soon though because of the heavy reliance on the motion plus controller, they'd have to rework the entire game without a similar controller.

No error, no log file, it just seems to continue loading the standard D3D backend (and says so in the status text when loading games). I extracted the full Reshade archive to the Dolphin folder and renamed Reshade32.dll -> dxgi.dll, and overwrote the settings files in the SweetFX folder with the custom ones. Any ideas on what could be happening? Is there somewhere else Dolphin could be looking for the DLLs?

I also don't seem to be seeing the effects from the Gecko DOF code, despite enabling cheats, adding it to the INI, and enabling the specific code in the Gecko Codes tab of the game. Maybe the code depends on SweetFX, since that also isn't working?
Thank you guys in advance for any help you can offer!

You should be renaming ReShade64.dll to dxgi.dll as Dolphin 5.0+ is exclusively x64, you can delete ReShade32.dll from the folder. It works perfectly with the latest development build. I'm not using the depth of field code at the moment so I can't help you with that but it doesn't have anything to do with SweetFX.

edit: did a quick test of the Gecko DOF Hack and it doesn't work for me either, is it compatible with the NTSC version only?

As far as I know, all AR/Gecko codes are region specific for all games.

This Gecko code is region specific to NTSC. I frankly do not know how I would go about discovering the PAL equivalent.

Not all AR / Gecko codes are region specific, take the Super Mario Sunshine 60 FPS and Widescreen Gecko codes for example (throught there are better working alternatives for the widescreen code as region specific).

If they don't ignore you, they would like likely be hostile to you as soon as they realize your work is connected to emulation. It's probably not worth it but who knows.

Dolphin is legal in and of itself but I'm fine with hostility too.

I think the larger issue is more that your texture pack is for free, while the remaster team would have remade the game and sold it for a profit. With textures packs and emulation, there is less reason to (re)buy remasters for newer systems.

Take Twilight Princess HD for example for the WiiU. Wouldn't you rather stick to the GameCube version instead? The GameCube version also has widescreen, hero mode and hi-res textures at 1080p. It even goes further by supporting 4k, perhaps 60 FPS someday through Gecko Codes and double enemy health with Gecko codes. Everything the WiiU version can do can Dolphin do almost as equally great if not better. So it will be the job of the remastering team to go even further than that (the new control scheme for the WiiU version is great by the way, the improved sailing for Wind Waker HD is great too).

Now if Nintendo would remaster Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Switch without those MotionPlus controls, then we would be talking for real.

Yeah, that was my angle.  I'm by no means criticizing pack creators for it (which would make me a massive hypocrite), just playing the devil's advocate.

Here is an example of what I mean.  This guy worked for literally years on this project.  Right as he was about to release the final product, Nintendo swooped in and pooped all over it.  As cruel as the timing is, I don't think it was by design on the part of Nintendo (maybe?) but rather that the pre-release hype gave it too much visibility.  Whatever the case, they sure gave him quite a scare and now he either stopped the project or went underground.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have the texture pack and the gecko DOF cheat working, however I can not seem to get the shader to work. I have renamed the ReShade64.dll to dxgi.dll and I am using the Direct3D11 backend.
Thanks
Kyo
