I'm new to using Dolphin and Skies of Arcadia is my favourite game. Thank you very much for doing the HD texture. After I downloaded the rar and unzipped it, I followed the instruction in the readme file and put the two folders according to the readme file. However, when I load the game, nothing has changed. So can you please tell me how to install the pack properly?

On Dolphin: Click on "Graphics" > "Advanced" > check the box that says "Load Custom Textures" That should do it for you if you installed the packages like the Readme page says. 09-17-2016, 11:31 PM
As long as I'm not dead its not dead. And even in that situation, anyone would be free to pick it up. I haven't been working on textures as of late but I plan on getting back to it sometime soon. My free time has been going to working on a new custom texture tool and a legend of heroes marathon, just played through the first and second chapters of Trails in the Sky back to back, and now working on Cold Steel. Also a lot of friends have been conning me into playing a ton of heroes of the storm. Past few weeks I've also had an endless flow of PCs and tablets and all kinds of junk that people needed fixed. I've done a few more textures here and there but nothing worth uploading as of yet.
Making textures consistently takes a certain frame of mind. It's a ton of work for little payoff, so when I'm busy in life, I personally have to be in the mood to work on them, which I haven't been lately. I bounce between projects all the time, so it's only a matter of time before I bounce back to this one. 09-18-2016, 04:32 PM
Something of a bug report, I guess? Current graphics settings that aren't default Dolphin 5 are 1920x1080 resolution, stretch to window aspect resolution, use fullscreen is checked. Enhancements at 4x Native internal, 4x AA, 2x ani filtering, scaled efb copy and fore texture filtering are checked. Hacks checked are Skip EFB access, and Texture Cache accuracy is at Safe. Advanced settings enabled are Prefetch Custom textures and load cutom textures.
Now, I've been playing with the pack on with no issue up to this point, but as soon as I encountered Gilder, the portraits in the X menu have started reverting to the defaults whenever I look at the Y map, and doesn't resolve until a game restart. I already experimented with turning settings on and off and duplicating the bug, but none of that resolved the issue, so I don't know if Gilder is breaking something? Update: Gilder doesn't seem to be the issue, it's still happening with Enrique in the party. Going through a battle seems to resolve the issue till the map is accessed again. 09-27-2016, 03:04 AM

I just bought a house a couple months ago that needed (and still needs) a lot of work. Also I expect a son in a few months. I love Skies so I'll probably also work on it more eventually. I believe Bighead mentioned in the OP that the updates will be very sporadic, as we weren't sure of how popular the pack would actually be. 09-27-2016, 03:41 AM

Congrats on the baby, I was so glad I stumbled across this page and love what you've done, even if some of the portrait upscales are rather wonky.
As someone who hasn't played Eternal Arcadia since the Dreamcast era and owns the Limited Box from Japan etc. I was so annoyed at how bad the audio in the GC game was and it will always be my wish that we could have a remaster etc, but it looks like SEGA still won't work on it so for now this may be the only way to work on giving spit and polish to our beloved game. I don't have a rip of the dreamcast version of the game. But a preliminary look at the Gamecube version's files is that Magic/Supers use DSP streams along with 4 music tracks (title, intro, ending, credits). Everything else I assume uses the sequenced sampling system. I don't have the tools installed yet to analyse these files due to a recent re-install, but if there's already some resources/analysis out there I'd love to see it. I'm also having trouble finding the specs for what kind of streams the Gamecube/Dolphin DSP supports (All DSP files on SoA are 4-bit 22Khz *makes wretching sound*) 10-11-2016, 01:24 PM

The portraits was sort of a lose/lose situation that we ultimately had to make a tough call on. We would have loved to stick with the originals, unfortunately we lack the skill to upscale them properly, so we were forced to use official artwork. (I do think Bighead did a great job fixing them up though. Some of them were TERRIBLE by default) (10-11-2016, 07:46 AM)Pyrii Wrote: As someone who hasn't played Eternal Arcadia since the Dreamcast era and owns the Limited Box from Japan etc. I was so annoyed at how bad the audio in the GC game was and it will always be my wish that we could have a remaster etc, but it looks like SEGA still won't work on it so for now this may be the only way to work on giving spit and polish to our beloved game. We messed around with the audio, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to play the sample audio files on pc. Which obviously means there isn't a way to convert the mp3s we have from the original (DC) game back to the .samp format. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of work being done on it either. There looks to be a few different ways to replace DSP files on an image file, but those don't really help us out here. We've both been pretty busy with other stuff too lately, so it's up in the air when we'll be back to doing anything new here. |
