So it doesnt appear to really make a difference. I re pasted when i took it off and im getting lower temps now (~58C idle and ~78C at full load) then i was before the re paste. so even with the stripped screw it looks like it was a good thing to do. I O'ced my CPU to 3.2 each core and i finally get 100% playability on SMG 1/2 
i even under clocked it from what i can max out at and still get 93-100% all the time. So that's awesome.
