Even though OpenGL is generally faster nowadays, it doesn't take that long to switch between the two and see which is better for a certain game (and you can force specific games to use OpenGL or D3D11 through .ini files iirc). OpenGL, off the top of my head, avoids some problems D3D11 has in certain games (Tales of Symphonia gray screens, Skyward Sword silent realm crashes). OpenGL has some issues (Sonic Heroes for example), but they may be fewer than D3D11.
