Should I get an entirely new pc? (Hardware)

Hello everybody!

I saw wowhee's post asking if his rig will hold. I just started using Dolphin and I'm also curious about my own situation. I actually already know if my rig will hold, though. Unless I'm doing something completely wrong, it isn't holding. Zelda: Skyward Sword will not go over 60% speed as soon as I leave the first building and enter Skyloft.

I'm wondering if you can give me some tips about my PC speccs. I want to run the game at 100% and looking as fancy, but I can't seem to find out what's the bottleneck here.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz, 2497 Mhz
Motherboard: Foxconn G31MVP Chipset P35/G33/G31
RAM: 4096 MB DDR2 (2x2GB, I think)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Bluetooth: None yet.
Gamepads: None yet.

Can you guys give me any good tips on what I should improve? I intend to buy a Wiimote Plus with a Bluetooth donngle, but I feel like it's not worth the investment yet if my PC can't run the games properly. Seeing as you helped out Wowhee so well I got the courage to ask, too!

Hi Ismaru,

The bottleneck would be your CPU.
For good playable speed while keeping a good internal resolution, you should atleast get a SandyBridge ix cpu.
Your GPU should be able to give you atleast x2 internal resolution.

Skyward Sword is quite heavy on the CPU, overclocking won't really help either. (Unless you manage to pull of something crazy like 4.5/5ghz or something)

Thank you for your response! I'm going to look into upgrading my CPU then! That's just the response I needed Smile

You can also try to overclock your cpu. A q8300 can take up to 3.6ghz. At this frequency, most games including zelda should run at full speed.
If you only reach 3,2 this might also be enough, sometime a little more speed gives very good results with dolphin.

follow this thread for example : http://www.overclock.net/t/423312/q8300-overclocking-thread

bullshit boy...
there are only 10-15games who need above 3.5ghz
he should just buy a new big cooler 40bucks
and get the shit out of his cpu...

should be enough for one more year

He specifically said he wanted to play Skyward Sword. And you need a very high CPU clock atleast on any CPU to get playable speeds.
If I get around 30fps max in Skyloft only at stock, he'll need MORE than 3.3Ghz to run this atleast in Skyloft at 30fps.

There are more intensive parts in this game hence the 4ghz+ requirement.

No, the 'right advice' would be, get a 2500k. Best value for your money. But sadly the prices are rising up now that AMD officially gave up. Sad
