But I don't see a place to set a dedicated graphics card?

According to the internet the i7-4790K is compatible with my Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H ATX already... so unless I'm wrong, I don't need a new mother board. Is it worth upgrading to the i7-4790k?

It's using your nvidia GPU.

That option is only available if you have nvidia optimus, which you don't.

Hm... Then I guess I'm screwed. So the only people who can get Dolphin to run at 1080p are all over clocking? Even if I got a new CPU that did 4.4 GHz, it wouldn't matter?

I run SMG fine without overclocking. I don't know why you can't.

You have a 4790K @ 4.6 ghz, I guess that's why. I'm gonna go ahead and buy one then.

er, oops. The clock speed on that is wrong lol

it's 4ghz.

Your 4770K turbos up to 3.9 ghz.

Clock speed isn't your problem. A WEIRD suggestion I would say is... Try it in Linux.

Maybe I should mention this, my operating system is located on my SSD, my C drive. Dolphin is located on my drive with all my programs, my E drive. The actual game file is located on my drive with most of my media and games, my G drive (I was running out of space).

Could the fact that things are on different drives be an issue? I guess I could move Dolphin to the G drive where the game is stored, I have enough room to spare. I definitely don't want to put all my Wii iso's on the E drive though. And C, definitely don't want to put much there, that's just for my OS mostly, not much room.

Nope.

Do you have MSI afterburner installed?

If you can run that while SMG is running at your desired settings, and post screenshots of the monitor graphs showing GPU temp, GPU clock speed / speed, and GPU utilization, that might verify that your nvidia card is being a jerk and trying to stay in a low powered state.

So you have a  i7-4770K and you want to upgrade to a  i7-4790K? Am i missing something? That would be just stupid. If you have temperature problems when overclocking the 4770K, 1st thing is to use a good aftermarket cooler. And if that isn't enough, look into delidding the cpu to keep it cool. Seriously, if you just overlock your cpu to something like 4.4 Ghz, it should be faster than any not overlocked cpu you can buy.

About the settings, as everybody already mentioned, use HLE audio, it is much faster. Only if you get audio problems, like stuff not sounding right, then use LLE audio. Also disable forcing ntsc-j, if the game is not japanese.

You can try enabling per pixel lightning. Usually this should make things slower, but if it makes things faster, there is definitely a problem with your gpu entering high performance mode.

About upgrading your GPU: That shouldn't be necessary, i have an amd radeon hd7790 and i play everything just fine on 3xIR. Your gpu is 100% to 300% faster than mine according to benchmarks, so if you are fine with 3xIR, any faster gpu would be pure overkill.

About directx errors: If either directx or opengl does not work in Dolphin, you have either a hardware or a driver problem. Try some driver uninstaller, that completely removes your gpu driver, and make a fresh clean installation with the lastest stable driver. And if that doesn't work, try the lastest beta driver.

Last but not least: Try making a portable configuration. This allows you to test with clean default settings, and also to test if the problem is storage related. Create a portable.txt file in your Dolphin folder(where the Dolphin.exe is located). Dolphin should use default settings without your saves and whatnot, that's what we want here. And then try copying the whole folder to your various drives and start it from there.
