Hello everyone;
I'm new to the dolphin but not to emulators and i was trying to find perfect settings for me on dolphin, so i made a lot of experiments with options of it.And i will share my exp. with you guys because even though there is info on the site its too scattered.
Before begin i have to say what a lot of other people says every computer is different so effects of this options on you maybe different so beware of this.
I didn't just open a game played a little and come to conclusion i tried this settings on heavy levels and games.I have 10 games not much but they are common ones.
I get more than 50-55 fps nearly all the time but on loading it drops.Very rarely drops to 30-35 fps.
My pc specs:
Intel i5 650
hd5450 1gb (i know it sucks)
4gb 1333mhz ram
no wiimote i use mouse and keyboard and a trust predator gamepad
i think my rig is pretty common
my dolphin version is from this site http://www.dolphin-emu.org/
v257 64 bit
-----------------------------------------------------
Lets begin;
First of all if you are using win 7 start dolphin with admin rights.
General:
Enable Dual Core: Definitely on. If disable this it will really gets slow
Idle Skipping:On . I didn't feel any difference really.
Enable Cheats:Off. I don't cheat so if there is any impact i don't know.
FrameLimit:Auto.I tried off ,60 and auto no diff.
Skip gc bios:On. I think it skips gamecube logo thing on startup
Enable Opencl:On when i disabled this thing it felt like faster but could be placebo or my sucking vga card
Engine:
I use JIT it is stable dont bother with interpreter it gives me 1-2 fps when i first use JITIL it gave me a lot of popups saying something not right.I tried this but it is unstable.Sometimes in games button configs gets messed up.And some glitches occurs. But i am confident it is faster than JIT
even if it is 3-4 fps.I hope it will patched up in future.
Lock threads cores: Off At first it seems like no change but after a while really slows down.It maybe different for other cpus
Dsplle on thread: off dsplle doesn't works for me so no idea
Display:
For fullscreen i use 800x600 there isn't much difference between 800x600 and 1024x768 as graphics but 800 faster so i use this.I didn't tried higher res.
Render to main window : on no visible diff
use panic handlers:Off when this is on i feel like slower but could be placebo
Wii:
Enable prog scan: Off no diff for me
Use eurgb60: On when playing euro pal games if this is off and you open a pal game emulator says something about changing to 60 hertz but it still plays with jiittering
Aspect Ratio: Your choice
Plugins:
Graphics plugin:
For this i use directx 9.
Directx 10 is kinda buggy for me and opengl is slower.
SSAA mode: Off for me. If you have a strong vga card think about it
Enable Cpu-> EFB access:Okay this is definitely my archenemy. If i enable this it really slows my render time 60 fps to 35-40 fps in crowded
places like Super Mario Galaxy observatory with everywhere accessible with alot of star things(lumas)
If you don't need this close it.Some games unplayable without it like Galaxy
Use dlist caching:On it speeds things a little but i read it is buggy
Use safe texture: off You may need for some games otherwise blocky or something with graphics.I have no game needs this so i don't know.
Enhancements:
Efb scaled copy: OFF This thing slow things even more
if you disable cpu->efb access this thing diasbles too but you don't need it
for playing games needs efb access i think it really slows speed
Disable fog:On i don't know where to try this so no idea
Enable efb copy :To texture i don't feel any difference between ram and texture but a lot of people says texture is better
Enable xfb: off it slows a little if open but not much you may need it for some games
Use native mipmaps:On if you close this things get a little slower
Audio:
I can't use LLE so HLE options are
Enable audio throttle :off i think it is changes for games
If you disable other 2 you will get no sound it feels like faster but i am not sure if i am really disable hle plugin or it is just placebo but i really feel like it is faster with no audio
Audio backend: Dsound openal is more anti-bass(treble???) No diff for speed
Wiimote Plugin
I don't have wiimote so i don't know
------------------------------------------------------
I am sorry for caveman style writing and my grammar.
I am thankful for people programmed this great emulator.I hope you will enjoy my view of it.
To admins: I think a topic like this is needed for sticky topics section for newbies and lazy people.
