setting "ignore format changes" grayed out?

The setting "ignore format changes" is grayed out. How do i un-gray it?
It's under Graphics > Hacks > Ignore Format Changes

The OpenGL backend doesn't support that setting. Use D3D9/11 if possible instead.

That's a stupid way to phrase it, since it suggests it's some weird kind of limitation of unix. Anyway, I think the OP got the point.

Probably isn't important, but the OS X kernel is UNIX compliant, while Linux is only UNIX-like.
