I run two Mediawikis, one well visited, one seldom visited. I activated on both that you have to be registered to edit. That works very good. If a user talks smut, he's banned.
As my fore-poster said, the workload on a moderated wiki is heavy and wasted. I assume that this nice community is the best moderator. It's worth a try. And the only way to prevent the infos to become outdated.
