Hello,

I am new on the forum but have been using Dolphin for a few years.  I had been using 3.5 for awhile and kind of dropped out of Wii emulation for a bit due to computer issues.

Now I am back and see we have 4.0, which runs really well but I have something I am wondering.

Generally when I set up my emulators for anything new than PSX, I tend to set up a separate emulator instance and configuration for each game. The reason for this is I like different controller configurations for each game,  some games can handle 4x native while others only 2x and some games require some special configuration just for that game. Since I cannot always remember all of these specific configurations for each game and do not like to go reconfigure my controls if I want to play a different game, this makes tons of sense. Cool

The new version of Dolphin seems to have this deal where it has a common folder where it stores graphic and sound settings, control configurations, saves, etc., etc. for all Dolphin instances, which is a problem for me.  Confused

Is there a way to disable this? I really REALLY would like to be able to.

Thanks!  Heart

I suggest using the latest development version, it has tons of fixes and is a lot faster usually. https://dolphin-emu.org/download/?nocr=true
Also you don't need separate dolphin instances for that, you can do it way easier with gameinis:

Indeed, if you want to use game-specific settings, you can use game INIs for that. If you want to be able to have multiple full Dolphin configurations anyway, you can create a file named portable.txt in the folder where Dolphin.exe is. It will make Dolphin save configuration in the directory it's in.

Right click on the game in Dolphin, go to properties, and then at the bottom is edit config. It will then generate the files because there's no reason for them to exist before you start making them.

In the general folder that holds dolphin settings at c:\. Read https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/guides/controlling-global-user-directory/  for further info.

For easy access just right click the game in dolphin gui, select properties and click the bottom left button, it will bring an empty txt file to save your settings.  There shouldn't be any file though until you save some settings in the above folder.
