Hey everyone.

For those of you using external controllers to play GameCube games (I use a wireless 360 controller), am I the only one that feels like the joystick is a little choppy? For example, let's say I'm playing Mario Sunshine. Pushing the joystick ever so slightly past the deadzone makes Mario move slowly. But there is only a sliver of space around the deadzone of the stick where Mario increases in speed from a slow walk to a sprint. I would like to increase this area, if possible, because that would allow for more accuracy when moving characters on the screen.

You can really feel it in racing games like Mario Kart. Pushing the stick just a tad too far past the deadzone will cause your kart to turn very sharply.

Is there an option in the interface that I can change? If not, is there a line of code I can edit to compile?

Or perhaps I'm doing something else wrong?

Thanks!

I don't have this issue with Mario Kart tbh.
New computer, I'm back!

I've only recently discovered that you can actually in the gcpad config (or even in the wiimote plugin) options, right click on top of the analog stick directions and set the range.

The default is 100 which is way high.

I found a good balance is to set all directions to 75. If you set it too low you don't even reach the maximum engage distance so for example in wind waker you can't run no matter how hard you push the analog stick.

Still it's not perfect but a significant improvement. Definitely it's not the same as the GC controller. In some games it's hard to notice, in others is very easy to feel there is something wrong with the sensitivity of the analog stick.

I understand that the analog sticks in ps3 controller (if you using motioninjoy) or the analog sticks in 360 controller (if you just using a 360 controller with your pc) are different than the GC ones, but other emulators like project 64 and pcsx2 doesn't have that issue and manage to emulate the stick range and sensitivity correctly out of the box.

Unless of course there is something i am missing in the config options...

Thank you very much! Setting each direction to around 75 drastically improves the accuracy for every game I've tried with it so far. Should definitely be the default option for joysticks.

While I love the new GCPad plugin, I'm kind of surprised the 360 controller plugin was removed entirely. Considering that it's such a widely used controller, it would make sense for a plugin to be included which maps 360 controls and buttons correctly and automatically, including joystick range, sensitivity, general configuration, etc.
