I've checked this out as much as I can deal with, several times; I'm not one to ask questions too often, but I can't find anything anywhere.

Yeah, I'm using a cheap controller. If that's the problem, so be it. Here's what's going on:

Some kind of Tomee with blue lights on it I got for like $20-25. Sensitivity? There's two options for the analog stick: on and off. Oh, wait...creep it forward an eighth of an inch...2 or three millimeters, and what happens? Link walks a little. Any farther than that and you're off running. Not the best for trying to aim ANYTHING, either.

In plain language, I'd like a reasonable distance between off, walk, and run; a reasonable speed to move Link's laser guided bow and arrow around and aim. Master Quest for Gamecube is the game I'll be trying to get this to work with.

I've used this controller for Project 64, and it's not the best. But, it works, and I get reasonable ranges. I work around the super-sensitivity. Dolphin is not fun, though. I can see the red and gray dots go through the full range in the controller settings window, but I don't have any area for when to walk and run (or aim slowly). I've found out you can right click and change the range, but that does absolutely nothing. I've set it to 0, exited and restarted Dolphin, checked the .ini and made sure it was still set to 0, and Link is still running around at full speed. If I set the radius to 42, I can get him to just break into running, and I get some range for walking, but when I jump off an edge, it's like a little hop. Setting it to 50 gives me the edge-jumping ability, but now I lose the walking range. Does my controller just not work with trying to set an input range? That seems to be the solution in my perspective, but it really doesn't do anything. 100? 75? 0? 500? -500? Nothing changes. Any input would be appreciated, thank you. Screenshots/other necessary info will gladly be provided, just ask.

Nick

What version of Dolphin are you using? There were some recent changes to this stuff that may help. And does this controller support Xinput? (you'll see Xinput or Dinput in the devices dropdown in the GCpad window)

Hey, thanks for answering. I was hoping I didn't scare everyone away with my less-than-cordial tone.

I have Dolphin 3.5-2193, and the controller is DInput.

Honestly I haven't responded here cause I am not sure what's going on and was hoping someone else would chime in >_<. Well, can you show us a screenshot of your GCpad window please?

The "range" setting functionality was only just recently fixed.

I suppose I could have been more clear and informative with my initial description of the problem. The range and sensitivity on the controller I use is not what I would like it to be, and I would like to know if there is a way to fix it that doesn't involve buying another controller. In the given example (Ocarina of Time), if I press forward slowly, I can find the exact point to make Link walk. It is extremely sensitive, and just a hair after walk is full on sprint. It is difficult to aim the slingshot and bow given this sensitivity. I would like to decrease the sensitivity throughout the range; it seems if I decrease the range, that it only starts clipping input values off of the top, rather than shifting the input down. What I mean is that at a range of 42, I can get a little bit more range where Link will walk, but if I go to jump off an edge, it's like I walked off of the edge rather than ran, even if running. If I set it to 43, I get the capability to jump off the edge, but now my walk range is about a millimeter wide. I think that's about as clear as I can make it, but even reading it myself it seems ambiguous. I'm going to post the pic and download the new version as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance.

Nick

Some of the buttons aren't mapped in this because of the game; masterquest doubles x/y/z with the c-stick, so I just didn't map them. Mapping isn't the issue though anyway. Thought I should mention it.

What do you have in the Game Controllers settings test area?

Hardware and Devices > Right click the controller > Game Controller Settings > Select the controller in the window and press Properties > Test tab

There should be a Axes box for the main stick. Move it around and see how it behaves.
