i just built a desktop. cpu- amd fx-6300 @3.5 ghz. gpu- amd radeon r9 270x ram- hyperx fury 8 gb 1866 mhz. when i play loz wind waker i get around 25-33 fps. this seems really low considering thats what my laptop gets. is this an expected framerate? what could i do to improve it. also if im in a menu it goes up 60 fps and every music, actions, etc. speeds way up any way to "fix" this. its not really a problem but just seems weird.
seems to slow

Use the latest development revisions here: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/ Don't use the latest stable builds (that means 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2), those are older and slower than newer builds. The stable builds also forced Wind Waker to use LLE audio by default, which is very CPU intensive. AMD CPUs have poor single-threaded performance, which translates into poor Dolphin performance, which would explain the dips in your FPS. The latest builds have (more or less) fixed HLE audio to a playable level for this game. HLE audio uses far less CPU resources, so you should be able to play Wind Waker just fine on something like 4.0-2338. Try it and tell us the results.
my fps increased by about 10. the only problem is it dips down to 35 when i turn around. would overclocking improve my performance. also the audio speeds up when playing at 40+ fps. is there any way to fix it?
*also if i end the emulation dolphin stops working and auto closes*
As much as I love AMD, I haven't tried Dolphin on an AMD machine in quite a while, and @ 3.5 GHz, I wouldn't expect ideal performance on a current AMD chip (clock for clock, AMD is much slower than Intel in single-core performance -> see the benchmark thread on this forum). Emulation is not very amenable to multithreading, so AMDs approach of using an increased number of slower cores doesn't work well in emulators (that use 1-2 cores max typically). Overclocking may help a bit.
Your graphics card should be fine unless you have Dolphin set to some ultra aggressive supersampling + highest internal resolution. I have noticed some stuttering in Dolphin games caused by videocard power savings. E.g., when not much stress is put on the card, it down-clocks (this can happen a lot in Dolphin, as it usually does not stress the video card much in most scenes). Then, when a more stressful scene occurs, it increases its clock (but sometimes not fast enough to avoid stuttering). You can check for this by running MSI Afterburner with the onscreen display activated. This should also only lead to a temporary dip in FPS. If needed, Radeonpro can be used to force full clocks always when gaming. Also, regarding the crash on exit... not sure why that happens... is your system otherwise stable using testing tools (e.g., AMD overdrive, prime96, occt, AIDA)? Is the chip throttling? Are temps OK? 08-01-2014, 07:35 AM
Wind Waker is 30 fps game, so getting 25 - 33 on an AMD FX is probably about right.

i have two other versions of dolphin and they dont crash. im guessing its just the version having a couple of bugs. i havent tested my cpu with a program yet.*side note the games i have played have run perfectly fine* other then the crash at the end and sound acceleration nothing is wrong. i would also say is coolrom.com what ever version they have linked must be old because i dont even get above 30 fps on that one.

The OP means he/she obtained Dolphin from that site, not the games. There was a misunderstanding, and the OP discussed this with me as well. The Dolphin version may have come from a pirate site, but there's nothing (legally) wrong with that. And yes, the version on that site is old, just so you know (like I said, 4.0.2 forces LLE audio, which is very heavy on the CPU). 08-02-2014, 01:47 AM
Ok, that's good things got worked out. The context of the post is not very clear, so it seemed like he was mentioning downloading a game.

sorry for the miss understanding. now the only problem i have is that the audio is accelerated. is there anyway to fix this now or do i have to wait for an update.
