Hey guys,

I need some assistance troubleshooting. I've tried a host of different settings, but I can't eliminate screen tearing from Dolphin on this PC (vsync on and off, frame limiter, forcing in the driver, and OGL backend). It's a recent build and I'm running an overclock. See the specs below.

CPU: Intel i5-3570k @ 4.5GHz (Prime 95 Custom and Intel Burn Test Stable)
Volts/Temps: CPU @ 1.271v, PLL @ 1.799v, Zelda: TP temps @ 62c MAX
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
GPU: EVGA Geforce 680 @ stock
GPU Driver: 332.21 x64
RAM: Crucial 8GB (4GB x 2) 1600MHz 24-9-9-9 2T @ 1.5v
OS: Win 7 SP1 x64 (Up to date Feb 2014)

Dolphin: Official v4.0.2
Game: Zelda: Twilight Princess Gamecube with 16:9 AR Code (Personal Rip via Gamecube BBA)
Settings: 4xIR, 16x AF, Force 16:9, D3D11, 1080p, Use Fullscreen, Show FPS, Hide Mouse Cursor, HLE & Xaudio2, all else default.
Monitor: Testing on a 24-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2494SW LCD Monitor 60Hz over DVI

Help me spitball on how to resolve it. Thanks.

First off, don't force enhancements through Nvidia Control Center, as it doesn't play nice with Dolphin. Use the built-in menu in Dolphin.

You're probably hitting one of 3 issues:
1) Most likely, its a problem with the AR code. Not all of them work in Dolphin. Try disabling it and trying again.

2) Bring down the enhancements to 1x everything and see if it still tears. If so, don't raise the IR so high with max AA/AF

3) Check your md5 hash of the game against Google to make sure you don't have a bad rip.

Also try one of the latest dev builds (current is 4.0-828)

LOL. Thanks for that, Paul. I still fire up GCoS from time to time and push dols over netcat. I actually set up the AR exploit many years ago (pivoting from PSO naturally) and initially boot from dols converted to gci on a standard memory card. No easy peasy SD cards for me.

On to the issue:

1) I tried disabling it. The issue still appears. I've also played ten plus hours with this AR code on a laptop with a i7-3610qm and 7970m experiencing no screen tearing, crashes, or any other issues. Same version and settings there with mostly full speed outside of hyrule field and the death mountain dungeon.

2) Everything completely on stock at 1x IR and I still get tearing. It was happening in fullscreen and windowed. The odd part is that the screen refresh is 60Hz, a la 60 fps, and the game only runs at 30 fps. You would think tearing a non issue in this scenario.

3) I checked the md5 and sha1. They both match several game indexing sites, so the rip is good.

For reference:

md5: 41deff9b1fd2831f48fbfa2dd1054e4d
sha1: 75edd3ddff41f125d1b4ce1a40378f1b565519e7

Actually, I appear to have accidentally fixed the issue myself. I just installed the NVIDIA GeForce Experience for game streaming to limelight-pc (it works well by the way to the aforementioned laptop at 720p). This appears to have changed a hidden setting somewhere as I can no longer reproduce the screen tearing issue. Performance is just as good as before, so I haven't dropped below the 30-31 fps I was seeing.

I'll look into trying the latest dev builds. I'm going to play through Wind Waker soon and want to pick up the Dragon Roost fix. It'd be great to see a fix for the Zelda:TP light rays issue (at > 1x IR) some day soon. I'd donate for that alone.

The light rays issue is a DX11-only issue, AFAIK; try OpenGL. (And check "Vertex Streaming Hack" for a free speedup!)
