Saving game when using .WAD

Hello, im trying to play Rondo of Blood via a .WAD file. I cannot for the life of me get the game to save. Is there something im doing wrong? I use dolphin for many other games and they all save fine, its ONLY this .wad file that wont save. Every time I close the game and reopen it, its like I was opening it for the very first time.

Try exiting the game by pressing the Home button and selecting Wii Menu. Some Virtual Console games won't save if you just close emulation while the game is running.
