Hello,
okay, I think like most people I have no idea what is actually going on with the Dolphin emulator. First of all, as everyone knows, one can't use savegames from one Dolphin version in another, which means that one basically has to keep individual Dolphin installments forever and carry them over to different harddrives. This is basically a no-go, about which I think Cemu-people would agree, and which I believe has become a kind of tradition that hasn't been given enough thought after the first few times.
Then, to a varying degree different Dolphin versions by default either use a folder in the computer's User folder, and/or (normally much more wisely) the Dolphin's User folder. However, apparently, each version (!) adjusts by the folder which was used last by any installment. Could it be any more unnecessary? For one, this provides the double trouble to copy each possible folder for a back-up, while one can never really be sure to know which is the right one.
And every time a savefile is created, I can't be sure if it overwrites another version's or another game's file.
Starting Dolphin is a gamble for me, and I have to test various installments to find which is the right version for which game, and every once in a while I might have to find a back-up of a memory card or savefile and just test them through.
First of all, stop the global registry-shenanigans. Let there just be one user/save-folder in the Dolphin folder itself. Don't just leave the writing, overwriting and formatting to the emulated Gamecube (Wii) game itself, but provide some documentation and maybe clear designation for each game. And maybe start implementing some experimental backwards compatibility.
There might be some inaccuracies to what I say or suggest as new, however the gist of it remains, it is a chore to use Dolphin.
