Saved Filed Transfer

I recently updated my Dolphin from 4 to 5, and when I go to load a save it says that I can't because it is from an older version.

How do I go about transferring save files? I am on a Mac using OS X, and I have the absolute bare minimum knowledge of computers, so if whoever responds could be very explanatory I would very much appreciate it.

If it says you can't load ones from older version, what you have is a savestate, not a proper save. Open the version of Dolphin you were using before, load the savestate, then make a proper save in-game (the way you would do it on a real console). You will then be able to load that save in any version of Dolphin.
