have you tried saving a game... ingame?

seriously, if you don't give more details on your problem then don't expect a helpful response.

These two typos hurt. This sentence looked like it made no sense to me until I noticed these typos. And the ambiguity of your thread (3 lines asking how to save... what? In-game saves or savestates?) doesn't help much either, as he said.

Just use the in-game save functionality provided by the game (it works in 99.9% of cases); and if you really need to "snapshot" a specific moment, use savestates *wisely* -- don't rely solely on them (unless you have a good reason) without some sort of backup (such as the in-game saves).
Use Shift+FX (where X is between 1 and 8) to load a previously saved state, FX to load the state back.
My computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66Ghz - 2GB of DDR2 RAM (400Mhz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512
