Sandy Bridge has AVX instructions which in theory can double floating point performance (128 bit vs 256).

Think of AVX like SSE 5.

Getting double frames probalby aint gonna happen, but maybe (BIG MAYBE) a 20 percent improvment over SSE 4.2 builds, maybe.

So lets say you have a 3hz dual core, and you bench it by walking around the ship in Metroid Prime

-you get 30 Frames with no optimizations,
-with SSE 3 you get 35 frames,
-with SSE 4 you get 40 frames
-with AVX you get 45-50 (HUGE HUGE guess)

Programming doesn't work on Cans and Maybe's.

AVX in its first release, offers little to emulation optimisation.

AVX might be useful for texture decoding, which usually isn't a bottleneck, and not much else. Dolphin is never going to benefit much from having more than 3 cores either. Higher IPC (instructions per clock) always makes some difference though.

uhh, no? If I'm wrong, links then. Else, from what I've seen, sandy bridge is 10% clock for clock vs bloomfield/lynnfield/westmere

they didn't turn off the extra two cores the 980x had in the kitguru link, can't comment on the passmark link.

why would you disable the cores? apples to apples comparison is not how you compare performance.

It's pretty obvious that in multithreaded workloads like rendering, 6 cores would be better than a 4 core cpu. However, dolphin uses just two cores, so sandy bridge would be faster, as what my post said.

way to ruin the bugmenot account for everyone using it dumbass.

Btw, maybe when you understand an ounce about cpu instructions, pipes depth/length and cache latency, then you can open your retarded mouth.

please go kill yourself now.
