Hey forum,

I just wanted to share my findings regarding the latest Samsung update on my S10+ Snapdragon (Hong Kong version).
I have used the OpenGL ES Backend in the past for emulation, but after having tried the Vulkan Backend after the latest Firmware update I have noticed a substantial speed boost for all games. While in the past I could not run Resident Evil 4 in full speed using the Vulkan Backend, I am now able to run Resident Evil 4 with a whopping 3x Resolution and a HD texture pack at full speed.
Same accounts for Zelda Windwaker where I am using Hypatias amazing HD texture pack.
Vulkan is now officially faster than OpenGL ES on my device.
Is this the case for anyone else?  I would like to know whether most people are still on OpenGL ES or are also using the Vulkan backend.

Cheers and all the best!

Good to hear! Hopeful that this is true for more users. It would be great to see their drivers evolving and becoming more efficient.

Very nice! Do you have any idea of how much percent the performance have improved?

EDIT: I have access to a Galaxy A70 powered with Snapdragon 675. I'll try to do some tests on it later, compare OpenGL to Vulkan performance, it has the driver revision V@334.0 from March 12, which I believe is the latest revision.

The custom build is running ridiculously faster than normal build with Vulkan on A70. NFS Most Wanted running between 55-60 VPS with 75% emulated clock speed (native resolution), while official build runs only with 60% clock speed. It's a 25% improvement. Not bad for a mid-range phone considering how demaning NFS games are.

Unfortunately the game randomly crashes on the custom build for me, likely due to a lack of syncing. I don't really count unstable performance as performance.

That's very unfortunate to hear! I can play hours without any crashing. Which phone are you using ?

Console Emulation on android is a myth...

Even if the games run, there are stutters, bugs, lack of optimization, over heating. Even the MMJ build troubling as wehouya cant do something as simple as adding official gamecube adapter support.I was once hopeful but now im putting it to rest for good. Development for it is incredibly slow and Qualcomm and company get their heads out of their
..Im geting the wingpd2 for now or something similar..

If someone waa adamant tho about emulation on Android tho, id recommend them only devices by OnePlus
..they get the best performance out of Android and are actually rootable for overclocking and what not.

Im not complaining btw please take no offense, im jist stating facts
Thanks

Well of course it won't run on a low end phone, and I get that not everyone is willing to pay top dollar for a high end phone.

But calling it a myth is ridiculous, I owned a game cube when I was a teenager and I can tell you this:

The games don't just run fine on my phone, they also look better than they did years ago when I played them on my mom's CR TV.

Yes there might be lags.
Yes there might be bugs.

BUT I am playing the game and I am having fun.

And isn't that what matters the most? Having fun?
Honestly I don't think I could even play on original hardware anymore,
I can use save states which are super convenient and allow me to try out crazy things without worrying about losing points or whatever, I can hack the game and install texture packs among other things - super Mario sunshine multiplayer? Unheard of back on the day, but now I can play it with my girlfriend by hooking up the phone to our TV and connecting two Bluetooth controllers.
It's crazy what you can do nowadays.

Years ago I was hoping that I could play n64 games fluently on my PSP. Some developers like Stmnrm were working hard to bring these things to the community, I was always so excited about new releases of the emulators even if they were far from perfect.
I made this video 10 years ago: https://youtu.be/lex2p_A8cZE
And if I could show my old self what kind of games I can emulate on a phone now I wouldn't believe it!
Well I guess I am just crazy about mobile emulation and I enjoy it, and I wish more people could join this community and be positive about the things we get for free!
Anyways my Chao needs me in my Chao garden, see ya around!
