That may be okay for the odd gamer, but that's not okay for an international company. And you're right, not many details are known. As the guy above me said they've already stated that the WiiU will run wii games at 480p with no upscaling.

In that case....the only excuse I can think is it's easier. Other than that, no.

I would assume Wii U has the power to at least upscale the rendered image to not look crap on old HD TVs. But probably the console is running in some reduced Wii mode for security reasons
