i'm trying to play super mario galaxy 2 on a dolphin 3.5 emulator, so i'm following a guide on youtube to setup my controls until i reach the part where i need to configure the motor under rumble, i click on it and find it empty. i googled it and everywhere people are saying that switching from SDL to DInput and refreshing fixed it for them, i tried doing the same thing but nothing appeared. how can i fix this problem?

It's very important to know what kind of joystick you're using. It may support haptics, but if your hardware drivers don't let the APIs (SDL and DInput) know how to use them, they can't be used. SDL and DInput should work fine for rumbling (for most HID devices anyway). We'll need to know your joystick at any rate.

it appears my gamepad just doesn't support motor, since i tried my xbox controller and the box wasn't empty. one more question, do i need rumble to play super mario galaxy 2?

Nope. You don't need rumbling for any game. It's an additional controller feature that Dolphin emulates, but it will run games just fine without it.

Yeah, that's all it is. The motors just vibrate when the game tells them to. For most games, it's not a big deal, which is why you can use a keyboard or any old joystick for just about every game.
