Rotate the Control Stick Quickly

Exclamation
In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube), I have to rotate the control stick quickly and repetitively to get into Tube Mode. I have to do this using the arrow keys on my keyboard, because I don't want to get a controller for this one game, and it's friggin impossible.

Here are a few things I've tried, which have all brought up some interesting quirks (bugs?) in Dolphin:
  • I have changed the key mappings in the Pad Plugin mid-game (I set the directional keys so I could swipe my finger over the numbers at the top of my keyboard very quickly) to get past the Super Hammer tutorial, which worked once: just once. Then I tried to change them back and the pad plugin wouldn't map to the correct key. After a few times doing this, the Pad plugin just refused to map any new keys, period (it just left them at Press Key until restart, at which point it reverted to the arrow keys again).
  • I have ratcheted down the framelimiter to 10 fps, to attempt to slow down the processing of the keystrokes required to be considered a 'spin'. Didn't work, at all!
  • I have used AutoHotkey to simulate rapid rotation, but I suspect that Dolphin is capturing the keystrokes at a lower hardware level than AutoHotkey is sending them and so AH fails. Is there macro software that does work with Dolphin?
  • I have slammed the keyboard against my face. results: negative.

I really, REALLY don't want to get another peripheral. Can anyone please help me develop a solution to this problem?

I can't seem to do it quick enough to be recognized as a spin.

I can't, as in, it's not physically possible for me to do it consistently. Though, it does not necessarily require the up left, down right, etc... It just requires me to do it quickly.

Is there NO other way except to buy a peripheral?

Maybe you can map all the arrow buttons to the same key and tap that repeatedly.

You could also upload your memcard to megaupload, and I could get past that screen for you.

A wired xbox 360 controller might help you out.

My brother owns one and he is a bitch about letting me use it even though he has a wireless controller for the xbox 360, but I was able to do the super hammer command with difficulty on a keyboard.

In your pic, it doesn't look like your actually holding R because Mario isn't in his paper thin mode.

I'm thinking about how you managed to get the dubious paper from chapter 3.

The super hammer also stumped me until I used my first technique to change the mapping mid-game to be a straight line of keys I could swipe across. When that stopped working, I held the B button down and rapidly swiped my finger over my bottom 3 arrow keys, then as soon as I worked up a good swipe, hit the up arrow key. This qualified as a spin

Unfortunately, Tube Mode requires me to do that in a consistent, repetitive manner. I've tried all manner of doing this, including using a weight to hold down the right trigger (which, like you noticed, is not pictured in my attachment) while using both fingers to swipe. After swiping for 20+ minutes, I finally gave in and posted on here.

I shall try to see if the Pad Plugin is functional again.
Alright, I found an okay partial solution.

I opened up pad.ini directly, copy pasted the key-codes for the control stick (Main_stick_up, Main_stick_down, etc...). These were the arrow keys.

I then changed the key mapping, pre-game, to the numbers 7, 8, 9, and 0 (not in that order) from within the Pad Plugin, this worked. I copied the new codes separately.

In game, if i want to switch between the two, I simply copy paste either the numeric straight line, or the arrow keys codes into pad.ini, open the config for the Pad Plugin, then close it again. This will apply the changes to the file directly onto the game (though, in my Dolphin, it still says Up, Down, etc..)

With the straight line technique working again, I was able to do the Tube Mode.

Thank you so much! I swiped the 3 bottom arrows with my finger and after some seconds i swiped all 4 and it worked! Thank you sooo much! Big Grin
