Question
Hi All,

I have a Snapdragon 835 phone, and saw the new Adreno and MMU performance boosts that were added to Dolphin, so I decided to try it with one of my favorite games of all time, Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. I was amazed that I was able to play a few levels on my phone at full speed! Though, I have a question. In light of the new performance boosts, does anyone know through experience if I upgraded to a Snapdragon 855 phone if it would allow most of the game to be playable at nearly full speed (i.e. - The Battle if Hoth.)?

Thanks for your time.

855 should give you ~ at least 50% more performance in emulators
However, be aware that not all 855 devices have the same performance. Some throttle very quickly, some don't. Choose a device with good sustained performance.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!  I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy S10e or the S20 FE [with Snapdragon 865, but no headphone jack :-(]. I really would like to play this game close to full speed, if possible.  You wouldn't have any experience with this particular game itself, would you?

Thanks again!

If i'm not mistaken, that game is one of those ridiculously hard to emulate games. Haven't played it, but youtube shows that even a Snapdragon 888 has trouble playing it full speed.
Maybe the newest Dolphin versions boosted the performance considerably.
I'd say go for the more powerful device. While coming from a 835, any of the two choices will make a big difference, 865 is noticeably more powerful than 855.
Don't know how agressive the governor is towards power saving in Samsung though. I upgraded from a OnePlus 7 (855) to a Rog 3 (865+) and there's ~ 40% performance gain in most emulators.

I really recommend you to stay away from Samsung devices if you want performance for emulators, I had both S10 Lite (SD855) and S20 FE (SD865) and they performed very badly running very demanding games on Dolphin and AetherSX2. For example, God of War II on AetherSX2 had similar performance for both S10 Lite and S20 FE, they throttled very quickly and droped my FPS to like 30-50 range. Poco X3 Pro (SD860) and Poco F3 (SD870) are the best value for money phones for emulation, even when my Poco F3 was stock I could play God of War II at full speed with no frame drops.
PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / GTX 660 2GB / 16GB DDR4 3600MHz / Windows 10 Pro

Phones: Poco F3 8/256GB (Snapdragon 870 5G) and Redmi Note 6 Pro 4/64GB (Snapdragon 636)
