If the game thinks you're trying to play vocals rather than guitar, you have a different problem than the original poster. What you need to do is to set the extension controller of the Wii Remote to Guitar and then configure that extension controller. (Unless you're trying to play Rock Band 1, in which case you're out of luck.)

Yep, Rock Band 1, that's what. Oh well, it was worth a try. It worked on GH5.
