Rock Band guitar won’t sync.

I asked this on the rock band subreddit but didn’t get any replies so I figured I would try here. I bought a rock band 2 guitar (dark neck) that didn’t come with a dongle so I bought a dongle on eBay model# WGTSELEA2B which I have confirmed is the right model for the guitar but I can’t get them to sync. I have tried while it’s plugged into my PC with usb pass through and the game running as well as in my Wii U in Wii mode. Im at a loss as what to try next.

If it doesn't work on console, there probably isn't much we can do to help. Unless there's someone here who knows even more about Rock Band than me – personally I don't know the details of which guitars are compatible with which adapters...

I don't know if you need the game running on the console or not to sync it is one thing I don't know. I don't have a disc to try it right now either.
